  • Different training idea

In my current training plan I do 4 sets of 3 different exercise with 10 reps per set.I do this for every muscle except legs and back I do 4 exercises for them. I read about a different program which supposedly allows you to stimulate all 3 muscle fibers the white fiber, the intermediate red fibers and the red fibers. It consists of doing only 6 sets per muscle group and incorporating different rep ranges. For example for the chest they suggest

bench press- 3 sets of 6 reps to failure
incline press - 2 sets of 10 reps to failure
Dumbell chest flys - 1 set 20 reps to failure

Has anyone tried this before? I'm curious to try this but I'm worried I may not be doing enough to stimulate growth with this plan.

I have tried things a setup like that but, I did 3 sets of 6 reps for my first exercise, 3 sets of 10 for my second exercise, and 3 sets of 20 for my last exercise, used it to break through some plateaus. It worked for that, think you should try it and see how you feel.

That looks like a damn good workout. Were you changing the weights for each set?

Yes; I started heavy then worked to lighter; for this routine I recommend you keep a record of weights you are lifting as its gets confusing with all the jumping around.

Sounds like a good plan is it something that can be used as a normal routine or only for a few months for getting thru a plateau?

I keep all my routines to roughly 12-16 weeks after that I feel you need to switch it up.
