  • 6 weeks no training

A friend of mine I sometimes train with is having surgery for a hernia. He will be out from the gym a minimum of 4 weeks, possibly 6. How much strength/size do you think he will lose? He is an inch taller than me, 5-10, and i'm guessing 200lbs or so with about 10%

He'll lose a lot bro. Than again it depends on his genetics, some people can maintain a good amount, but usually the case is he'll lose size and gain fat.

During the recovery time his diet must be top notch to minimize muscle loss

Whatever he loses will come right back again as soon as he starts training again.

Thanks guys. I'm concerned when he comes back if he's gonna be able to push himself hard for awhile. Don't know much about hernia surgeries other than recovery is a bitch.

I have a friend who is an MD, he had a screen put in, he was doing light upper body in a week and light to moderate leg work in 3-4 weeks.

I talked to him today. Seems you were right on. He said he should be walking for exercise by the end of week 1. 2-3 weeks after, light exercise, nothing to stressful. Then 4-6 weeks back to normal. NOt as bad as I thought it would be

I did not workout for 4 months dropped down to about 230 bf was around 15-20. Started working out back in late may '09. Now I am up to 255lbs abs visible. I'd say 10-12% BF now. I noticed when I came back in the gym I started growing fast and leaning out really quick.

I got injured, but it did help me grow, I might do like a 1 month break, still do some cardio and eat properly but just take a month for my muscle to forget what the gym is.
