  • question on how heavy to lift and its effect on metabolism

For reasons I've had to train at a lighter gym for a number of months. In the last month I've gone back to the heavy duty gym when I could. Apart from frequency of training it seems that when I train light I store fat more. Its like training a bit heavier increases my metabolism. I'm not talking about throwing silly weights around just that bit heavier that I can do with good form.

I definitely agree that by lifting more your metabolism goes up. Just break it down. When you lift heavy, you're stressing your muscles even more. Also, you require more energy to move that weight, therefore your body burns more calories to reach it. On top of that, the recovery needed is very demanding. Your body constantly wants a fuel source to keep you going.

That's honestly how is see it man.

Well duuh! If you haven't change your food intake (more food) of course you gonna be bit leaner. You are burnig more calories. Not by much since muscles do anaerobic work but your heart rate goes up a little more so it puts you in to the fat burning zone.:D

Not talking about during workout Beast. Its like over the years I've created a metabolism dependent on certain stimulus, without it I put on fat now

The time under tension is so short when you go heavy, the calorie consumption is insignificant.

if your talking about lifting less intense, doing the same exact thing you were doing before with heavier weight, same amount of reps etc.. then sure your not taxing your body like you were.

with that said, take rado for example, he lift 2000lb bricks, lifts so heavy he has titanium forearms now, and he exactly what anyone would call ripped. :lmao:
