  • Taking time off

I haven't taken a break since June 2010 from lifting nor dieting. I have been beating myself into the ground everyday. I didn't start feeling the effects of this until last Wednesday. I got home from the gym and just wanted to pass out. Same thing happened last Thursday and Friday.

Came to the gym Monday, and attempted to hit chest hard. I was struggling to do the same weights i have been doing for a month. I managed, but felt like my muscles were going to give out ASAP. I shrugged it off and hit it hard on Tuesday. I did back on Tuesday, and it was worse. I could barely deadlift 315lbs for my usual 11 reps. I did 8 before i gave out.

Did shoulders and traps today, i actually felt weaker. It was embarrassing. I've been waking up every morning this week and its felt like i have been hit by a truck.

No energy for basic tasks, no energy for lifting, can't get a pump, and overall feeling run down.

Are these signs that i need to take off a week? Mentally i have to be in the gym, because if not i feel edgy. I was thinking of going in next week and doing light weights and seeing how i feel. Or possibly even cardio for that week.

    Thanks guys/girls.

I wouldnt say take a week off unless you are that beat up but 3-4 days you should feel fine. But i would do nothing at all.
your diet might be the problem also throw in a cheat meal ED for a week or so.

Bouncer is right. Your maintenance calories (assuming 6', 23 years old, 215lbs) is around 2800-3200 kcal. You are running a 1000 to 1200 calorie deficit. That's pretty high IMO.

I would take 2 weeks off lifting, eat at maintenance or slightly below, say 2600-2800 kcal and then come back. During your off days, do some walking, say for 1 hr outside or on the treadmill. This will allow your metabolism to reset. You will not lose any strength in 2 weeks.

Or his fat ass is finally feeling like he should. Yeah I know 1800 calories bit low but anybody has ever dieted for a show exactly knows that feeling like that is just part of the game so stop being a pussy suck it up and get back in the gym and also stop lifting so heavy you dont need to lift heavy at all. Just lift some modarate weight pump the muscle for 15-20 reps let it deplete all the glycogen and let your body tap in to your fat.

            Everybody stop babying him.

                      I wasn't being funny. :slap:
Like I said on my other post if you are stuck and making progress with a set calorie diet try to cycle your carbs, that should give you the energy you need and help you break that plateau.

Alright, thanks for everyone's responses. I guess its time to increase my calorie intake a bit and add in some complex carbs. I'll start this tomorrow and see how my workout goes.

                            DANA's quote of the week:

"You focus your mind to train your body and the changes that begin to take place impact your mind as well. Dream it, believe it, and you will achieve it."

Lol thanks Chad. Getting into the gym and lifting isn't the issue. The issue is my intensity isn't the same as last month. Mentally I am there, physically my body won't lift. I just feel like something will snap
