I was diagnosed with piriformis syndrome in September. I've had 3 months of physical therapy and cortisone injections. Specific stretches and a foam roller are my methods of pain management.
I honestly don't know how I've managed without one. It's very effective at hitting trigger points.
Wow, that good huh? Ever since doing xfit, it's part of the warm up/cool down. It hurts, but it's a good feeling hurt:) if that makes any sense. So I've been thinking of getting like a cheap one($30-40) and using it mostly for my neck and shoulders, seems to be a continuous problem of mine...especially doing the snatch. My shoulders are too tight to get the bar over my my head as I should, I do it....but it's a bit of work and shouldn't be this way.
Yes for me, it is that good. Obviously can't speak for anyone else, but I can bring a pain level of 8-9 down to a 3-4 with just a foam roller. It's incredibly painful when I roll across the trigger points but it's equally as effective.
