Maybe some of you remember me from a little while ago - anyways I set two goals for myself for the next 7 months; I PLAN on doing the Tracy Traskos NPC fitness/figure in Lansing Michigan in April - this means I am 15 weeks out. I chose this for a few reasons - first of all Tracy is my boss (I work at a gym) and second its to "get my feet wet" for the NPC July 16th show in Redford Michigan, aka the "Natural Michigan." I plan on doing fitness for both, but seeing as the one in April is short notice, I might just end up doing Figure if I can't nail down my routine in time. Just thought I would post it up for some encouragement. I have a lot to lose by then, but I know I have the willpower. I will post periodically with updates on bf% and diet and training. ::)

In the beginning it's motivation. About the middle of the diet it turns to willpower. The middle part of the diet IS the hardest. You've lost some weight, but there doesn't seem to be enough coming off....and the show date is so far off .In the last few weeks of the diet, its not even something I can put into words.
We will be contest dieting at the same time, so it will be good to have someone who I can vent to!
May I ask why you chose 2 shows that are so far apart???? For any one competitor to diet for 7 months can only lead to not so great things, physique wise...

Red - you are amazing I can always count on you to reply ASAP :)
These are two random shows that I selected seperately, not really having thought about their relationship to each other. Since last summer (when I went cardio-crazy and lost a lot of my muscle mass) I "bulked" up, lifted hard and heavy, and almost stopped cardio completely. The first show was just to keep me focused; with a show so far off (7 months away) I would be easily distracted like Jan 1st diet day # 1 I might say "oh, I dont have to be SO strict yet, I still have 7 months. It's just to keep me inline. I doubt I will even be ready for the April show, but with that in mind I will stay on track for July.
I'm SOOO ready and excited to lose some weight again. Diet will be challenging due to living in a sorority house with a cook that does NOT prepare healthy meals - will be best friends with the foreman, and also due to LONG hours in my studio doing projects.

Ready for the April show or not....The only reason I caution you about the large time span between shows, is you will lose more muscle than you have to. You also risk the possibility of looking worse at the later show.
I know you want to do your boss's show, but it may be more advantageous to pick a show closer to the goal show. A friend of mine did a figure show in March, and two shows in July, and by the last show she was looking very stringy.
You don't need to commit to a show in order to keep yourself in line. I'm dieting for a vacationi n Hawaii at the beginning of March. What about dieting for a rock hard body for Spring Break to keep you in line?
We all loose muscle when we diet for a show. I just don't want you to loose more than you have to!

How many weeks are you giving yourself before your vaca and what is you goal? And I would LOVE to diet for spring break, except since that is in March, I decided I wouldn't go on spring break bc I was dieting for the show! I have NO clue what my bf is right now but I need to set a realistic goal for myself. What do you think is the "optimal" (and maybe possible) amount you can lose in 15 weeks? I'm re-thinking the April show.

I'm starting my diet a week from today. I imagine with all of this holiday gluttony I am aroun 18% BF. EEK!!!! So, I will have 8 weeks to do it.
The goal is to be around 11-12% BF by vacation. I'm attacking the diet as if I am really doing a show. Same cardio, almost the same diet.
The optimum % for anyone to lose each week is 1%. But, average and a more realistic goal is about 1/2% each week. Let's say you're 17% right now ( JUST a guess) On a 15 week diet, losing 1/2% per week, that puts you right around 8% come show time. For a figure or fitness competitor, you really don't want it any less.
March gives you plenty of time to get in shape. At least what, 10 weeks? By dieting for a Spring Break body, you could still have a goal for yourself and keep your BF low, but not be on a contest diet. So, it would keep you in line to start your hard core diet at the beginning of April...or the end of April, depending on what your BF is when you start.
I just think that since you're doing natural shows, the chances of you looking a little stringy on stage are a lot greater. Especially if you put yourself on a show diet for 7 months. I honestly just think you'd do better at your July show if you chose to do just that one. And, for a warm up or practice, you can always find a show somewhere in your area 3-4 weeks before the last one. That way, you can get your water and salt and everything else exactly right for your state show. If you do decide to do the April show, if it's possible, you may be able to take about 4 weeks off of the diet. Don't go buck wild and get all fat, but maybe back off the contest diet for a month and do a quick little bulker between shows. The rebound effects from doing the first could reap some benefits! Just a thought,......
