  • Bubbles?

I use to get fake nails for the LONGEST time and I took them off last week. The damage is done for real. My nails and hands are in pain! Anything I do I have to be careful. Even washing dishes is hard because my nails are so sensitive to the hot water. Anyway I don't want to go back to the fake nails ever again. Even though they always look good and are so easy to take care of. I have started to paint my nails but I am having issues with the darn bubbles!!! I feel dumb asking how to paint my nails but I have been getting them done for over 10 years now and I don't have a clue how to paint them and not get the bubbles. I do wait in between coats too. I have waited 2 minutes, like the bottle says, all the way up to 10 minutes. What am I doing wrong?

It's possible it's the polish you are using. Go to like a Sally Beauty Supply if you have one in your area and buy some salon polish. That has much less chance of bubbling. In fact, I don't use anything else. The OTC brands just don't last as long, IMO. I use them on my toes as I still get my nails did...:)

^ ditto. Also, make sure your nails aren't getting hit by any wind (ceiling fans included) as that will cause bubbling and don't sit in direct sunlight for an hour or so after polishing. Don't put the polish on thick either, one clear coat to prevent the nail from yellowing, 2 very thin coats of polish, and finallya protective top coat.

After your nails have dried on their own for a few minutes you can use oil to help them dry faster; baby or cooking oil dripped onto your nails works, but easiest to do is spray some Pam on em...this is also great for your cuticles.

Get some plastic gloves to wear when doing the dishes to help keep your fingers painfree until your natural nails are back to par.

I asked my nail lady about the "bubbles" and she told me that I get them because my nails are not perfectly clean before I paint them. If you file your nails before hand or get any little bits of particles on the nail bed bubbles will appear. So, what I do now is make sure I wash my hands before hand and get in all the little grooves with soap and water before I paint them.

Awesome ideas ladies! I was under a fan when I painted them last. I will give it another try this weekend. I just can't wait for them to return to normal nails. Thanks so much!
