  • GNC takes out Female BBing out of SOS 2004

    http://getbig.com/news/weekly/current.htm

Did GNC eliminate women's bodybuilding from SOS?

There are two factors in a bodybuilding show, the promoters of the show, and the title sponsor of the show. Hopefully, these two statements will help clear the position with GNC.
Basic Media Productions, promoters of the 2003 GNC Show of Strength, made the decision to eliminate Women's Bodybuilding from the schedule of events due to the poor attendance and fan interest in last year's event held in New Orleans, resulting in a financial loss for the show.

The statement from the title sponsor GNC reads as follows:

"GNC wholeheartedly recognizes and supports women's bodybuilding. As the title sponsor of the event and not the promoter, GNC was not involved in the decision to drop women's bodybuilding from the show schedule."

The GNC Show of Strength, scheduled for Nov. 7-9, will feature a full schedule of events including: Professional Women's Fitness and Figure competition, the Lee Haney Ultimate Teen Challenge, Men's Bodybuilding, World's Strongest Man Competition, Professional Power Lifting and Professional Arm Wrestling Championship. Female bodybuilding professional Betty Pariso is slated to guest pose at the Women's Fitness and Figure competition finals on Friday, November 7. The event will be held at the Cobb Galleria in northwest Atlanta. Tickets are available for the expo at the door with discount coupons at GNC stores. Tickets to the main events are available through Ticketmaster outlets or at www.ticketmaster.com. (9/8/03)

Doesn't sound to me like GNC was resposible for this. Sounds like Basic Media Productions pulled the trigger on that one.

Am I the only one reading it this way?

GNC's next sponsored show in November has a full line up. Is BMP involved in THAT show?
