  • Same old me

Hello all, I am still trying to loose the last 10-15 lbs. After all this time, I haven't budged weight wise. I know I have gained some muscle, but I was also hoping for some weight loss. Here's what I have been doing... I've been at my lifting/cardio for about 2-3 months.

Here's my eating thanks to RS

    meal 1 - 3 jumbo egg whites + 1 yolk, 1/2 c plain oatmeal

meal 2 - rice cake + tsp natty peanut butter, protein shake, sometimes a peach or an apple

    meal 3 - salad with iceberg + spinach + 1 c cubed chicken + brocolli + 1/2oz cheddar cheese + 2 tsp. ranch dressing

meal 4 - rice cake + tsp natty peanut butter

meal 5 - lean grilled meat (chicken, steak or pork) + 1 c green veggies

I don't think I am getting enough carbs... sometimes with dinner I eat brown rice, but not very often. I'm not trying to diet for contest, just for myself, so that's my excuse for the ranch dressing...

as for workouts, because it's summer, I am working out Monday - Thursday, off Fri-Sun

I work out with my trainer on Monday, we do a lot of plyometrics, some weights

the rest of the week I am doing 2 bodyparts a workout 2 sets of 25 and only 20 minutes cardio which I do something different everyday elliptical, bike, stairmaster, and cross-trainer.

Today I am going to go back to 40 minutes cardio and lower the reps in weights.

I am 5'2" weigh 140 lbs. and am shooting for 120-125 lbs. Months ago, my bf was at 24%

    Any suggestions?

According to my rough calculations you are hardly getting 1000 cal a day, so my guess is you are over training and under eating. I would up my protein bit more. I think you are taking in about 90 grams protein a day so bit more would help, and like you said you can add some complex carbs to your diet also. Plus I would have a cheat meal once a week to kinda shock my system.
Hope this helps good luck DG. :)

I would probably add another protein shake to the 4th meal.

And, maybe some brown rice at the lunch meal.

Also- change out the iceberg for some type of leaf lettuce. Iceberg has NO nutritional value.

thank you... I think what I am going to start doing is cooking brown rice and then i always have it to eat. The kind I have takes like 45 minutes to cook, and I have to plan a lot of time to cook that before the rest of the meal, that's why I usually don't cook it.

RS I could easily add a shake. and change my lettuce. thanks for that! :)

I will keep everyone posted... something I have noticed since getting a trainer is my legs look so much better. Before the skin looked really cellulite and now it looks tighter and my muscles -- i actually am starting to look like I have them on my legs... I've never had them look really like anything, other than there and kind of big for my frame.

You could always buy the Success boil bags of brown rice - for when you're in a time crunch. I throw it in the microwave for 10 minutes and its fine - other than it tastes like crap :P

Baby spinach is a good alternative for your Iceburg. You can buy bags of it, and it tastes pretty good.

The secret is to set aside about 3 hours 1-2 times each week to cook all of your food. You can cook your rice, chicken, sweet pots all at once. I know you're pressed for time, so that could be an option. And be careful- don't cook too much rice- it will get REALLY stinky if you don't eat it all within a week's time! LOL

And just a hint about rice. Although maybe everyone but me knew this. I only heard a few weeks ago. It should only ever be re-heated once & never kept for more than a few days. It has a bacteria in it that breeds like wildflower. I was told this by a chef. I dont know the exact dynamics of it. Let's see what I can find on google to explain it better.

              Here we go

The main risk with cooked rice is from the food poisoning bacteria called Bacillus cereus. The bacteria forms a hard outer coating called a spore. This spore protects the bacteria from heat. If the rice is then cold slowly the spore will germinate producing more bacteria. These bacteria produce poisons or toxins. Re-heating the rice will destroy some of the bacteria but they will level behind their toxins which are not damaged by heat. These toxins cause illness.

So basically the longer you keep rice in the fridge after you have cooked it the first time, the more of that bad bacteria is produced. I'm sure plenty of people get away with it and never get sick, but I don't risk anything when it comes to food. I boil my brown rice the night before while im washing up dishes & cleaning the kitchen from making my familys dinner. Too Easy!

*LOL*. I went to Fiji a few weeks ago. When I came back, I thought it might be a good idea to clean out the fridge of food that didnt survive. I had one prepared meal left in the fridge that I hadnt eaten before i went away. It was brown rice, cottage cheese and spinich. I remember I made it to take to work, but fogot it. Needless to say, I didnt even bother opening it. The whole container went straight in the bin. Thank god for see through tupperware. Cause if I had to have opened it to see what it was, the smell would have surely killed the house plants.
