  • Is black history month racist?

There is no white history month, No asian history month, no latin history month, no native american history month. No eskimo american history month.... if you ask me it just promotes segregation.

I am not being racist, i just feel it is unnecessary. And if we insist on a black history month, then why not erase any black history that occurs outside of february.

Second rant---- FUBU... if white folks made a clothing line that was stated as specifically for white people... fwbw.. for whites by whites there would be a huge controversy..... It seems to me that racism can only occur white on black.

again im not racist, just looking for some conversation!!

i completely agree with you! i think it's called reverse-racism or someting like that. i've had many long discussions regarding this and similar issues with many former college and high-school instructors. i always feel its a good conversation piece. also note, the fact that you feel you have to state that you're not a "racist" is because of exactly this "reverse-racism" thing going on in todays society. us "white-folk" have to watch our ass day in and day out and it makes me sick. heaven forbid we even bring up the subject without being referred to as a racist... don't "black-folk" raise the issue often - yet no one claims that "they" are racist. go figure? ;)

I agree. I wish every month was just a general history month. that way our world wouldn't commit the same mistakes over and over and over and over again. history in general is so important and so over-looked as a whole. as for the clothing line I could care less. if they think that is cool to have something like that while every white kid in america also wears it I just laugh at it.

of course. I agree with that. there is much that is backwards in the world and we can thank our lovely government that has fucked so much of it up for us. they have separated us and have perpetuated the separation of our cultures to the point where it is ridiculus

I have to disagree. there has been slavery in every race. maybe not in america but slavery has exsisted since mankind existed. I think focusing on any history is good and like I said above it should be focused on every month for the good of everyone.

First off, this was institued because the old history books and some of the new ones only had the history of whites according to whites. All of the holidays centered around" white christian holidays" etc. etc. etc.

              Ok enough devils advocate.

Damn right this shit pisses me off. It's ok to have FUBU, the Black Entertainment Television, Brown pride shirts, etc. But here recently a St. Paddy's Day parade was labeled racist, because, guess what, the participants were Irish=(99% white). Hell there was native american at the gym the other day that had a shirt on
that said "All my heros killed cowboys" Had pics of the Indian leaders who slaughtered white settlers.

Now before anyone gets their feathers ruffled here I am not being racist nor am I. I DO NOT AGREE with the way minorities have been treated in the past in this country. However, when is enough enough? Should my great grandkids still have to work 3 jobs to attend college even if they have a 4.0GPA, when a minority with a 2.0 gets in with scholarships and essentially free higher education becuase of quotas? Should they still have to watch people of color wear (FUBU, brown pride, etc) clothing and know that if he wore a "white pride" themed clothing he would be labeled a racist. It is unfortunate that this topic cannot even be discussed by a white person without him OR her being labeled a racist in most cases.

So you are telling me that my ancestors who came from Ireland during the potato famine didnt face segregation, descrimination, or prejudice?

You are telling me that the chinese that were brought over to build our railroads werent in a form of slavery?

No flaming intended, just asking if you have considered things like this.

I always wondered why it was OK to have an all black collage but every other collage has to BY LAW have a certain % of minorities.

I think its different with blacks, they were brought over here as slaves, they didn't immigrate here. They didn't choose to come here like your ancestors. They were basically treated like animals, they couldn't vote, could use the same restroom as whites, go to the same quality schools like your ancestors did.

Chinese building railroads? I'm not familiar with this so I really can't debate with you on that one.
True they were not "forced" here. But the fact they did face segregation/descrimination still exists. A lot of the Irish immigrants did not go to school at the time.

I am agreeing with you that the situations were not the exact same, but there are some similarities. My question still remains, when is enough enough? Why is it ok to have a black only channel, a black only clothing line, black only colleges, etc? But if I complain that some kid gets accepted to school with a much lower GPA, or gets a job with much less credentials, etc. because of skin color, I am just racist. How long do I have to pay for something that happened before my family even came to America?
