What bothers me is, and I know it's petty, is The Black Miss America Pageant, where only blacks can enter. However, any black lady can be in the regular Miss America Pageant. Affirmative action also bothers me greatly, where as someone has already mentioned a supurlative student doesn't get in a school because of a quota system, so a much less qualified student does. AND ANOTHER THING THAT REALLY BOTHERS ME, PROBABLY MORE THAN THE EARLIER STUFF I WROTE, IS DOING AWAY WITH THE "HONOR ROLL" SYSTEM BECAUSE LITTLE DUMB JOHNNY CAN'T GET ON THE HONOR ROLL AND HIS POTENTIAL COULD BE DAMAGED.

This my friends is BULLSHIT, the typical "dumbing down of America". Hell, some people are smarter than others and should be rewarded for it, not condemned because their smarter. This my brothers and sisters is really what's wrong in our wonderful country. The ACLU, and ultra liberal fanatics. I'll shut up now, had to vent. BB

The black history month recognizes those who helped blacks become equals in this country.

Thats the way I look at it.
              I agree on this one..

I have no problem with black history month... i am a history buff so the more the better... i just think in the quest for equality it is seperating. black history is really black american history. but a lot of other races went into the building of this country but no others have their own month... and if they do its the first I am hearing of it. I think it is great to rember the past. there is no native american history month and their hardships inflicted by european settlers was every bit as bad as african americans. Different but every bit as bad.

I have no problem with BET either it is ok to market to a specific audience. That would be somewhat like getting pissed because nickeloden is geared towards kids.... but if there was an all white network that showed no other races it would be huge controversy.

I have no prob with racial pride to a degree, but i think a lot gets bent out of shape. My problem is with hypocracy.

One more thing and I'll shut up. Yes, the blacks who were brought here as slaves and treated so poorly most of the time do indeed have a gripe. However, not nearly so much as our Native Americans who really got the royal shaft. Most of all people's ancestors who belong to this board, including mine, are no more than thieves and murderers. Sounds harsh I know, but think about it. We came to this country, stole the Native American's lands, slaughtered tens of thousands of them, and what was a proud people were doomed to reservations when they had always lived off the land and had wonderful family ties. The American Indian was probably the most mistreated race of people on this planet. BB

I personally don't know any slaves. Living or dead.

I don't believe in any special treatment given to any group of people in this day and age. It has been over 30 years now that most minorities have received equal rights in this country, by law. Let's put it behind us and move on rather than drudging up the past and keeping it fresh in everyone's minds!

I'm not racist or anything, but, i've often looked at things the same way you guys have. I beleive the white male is becoming the minortiy these days we can barely say the word black without worrying if someone is going to mark you as being racist. I'm sorry but whites weren't the first people to inslave Africans, actually Africans inslaved other Africans and traded with the whites. Why have a black history month any way it just rekindles flames.

oh yeah, and not to rub it in anymore but what about BET. People would shit a brick if there was a WET.
