  • What are your religious beliefs?

Are you Jewish, Athiest, Agnostic, Hindu, Wiccan, Christian, Satanic, etc.?

What drives you so strongly in your beliefs?

Have you changed religions? If so, why?

This thread is for discussion of YOUR beliefs but please, no arguing or rudeness towards other members beliefs. We're all adults here and I expect everyone to act maturely. If anyone gets out of hand my whip will be taken out and used. :whip:

I'm Agnostic. I don't believe in anything specifically right now.

I was raised Catholic. During my teen years I was a Born Again Christian. As a young adult I still held on to my basic Christian fundamentals but no longer went to the Catholic Church although I did have my daughter baptized in the church. As years went by I began to doubt Christianity as being the truth. I looked into different religions for a while not finding anything that gave me something I felt strongly enough about to believe in.

Sometimes I believe that we have souls that may be part of another existence, yet at other times I believe that this life we live is all there is and that we're no different than a tree and when we're dead that's the absolute end. My favorite thought is reincarnation and that each life we live has an impact on the next. It's pretty frustrating to me to be like this. I'd like to find something I have a strong faith in.

Ya reincarnation is a fun thought. I also consider myself to be "between releigions" lol. My granfather on one side was a protestant pastor, my grandmother on the other side was a jehovas witness. Ive had enough christianity shoved down my throat to last forever. I suppose if I had to make a choice I would still choose christianity the faith because thats all I know, but I am seriously anti-establishment. So many disgusting things crimes have been commited in the name of god, I dont want any part of any of it. Buddhism is something that has always made me curious but I dont know anyone around here who practices it. And I would feel to weird inquiring about it alone.

Ive also sometimes thought that there is no god per se, just one spirit that we are all connected too. Kind of like a big spider web. And if something good or bad happens in the world/universe the effects would ripple. Sometimes taking years before they are felt in far off places, and the effect would dissapate the further away it is. But it woulds still be there. Just another fun thought.

I am a confirmed Roman Catholic, but I am not devoutly religious. I don't take the bible literally...and I am not a fan of the political structure within the church...but I do try to take the good I've learned and apply it to my life whenever possible. For me, it's about trying to be a good person in general, not a regimented set of rules that are absolute. I do believe in an afterlife (heaven), but I don't think there is a 'hell' in the traditonal sense.

Born and raised cathloic, and now see no point in religion. Why base ur life on a belief, that you cant proove? Ive seen too much pain and hurt in my life to believe that if there were a higher power, he wouldnt let what he has created destroy itself slowly.

I just believe in myself, and the people around me, they are what I know truly exists, and are who can actually help save me if the time ever comes

also born and raised catholic, but since my freshman year started questioning what it was i had been "taught" to believe in. i feel there may be something out there but doubt anyone alive knows what. i don't practice, and would consider myself an athiest now, i just try to do what's right. i don't think i'm going to keep religion from my son though. he'll learn about God, and religion, when he's old enough he'll make his own choice whether to believe or not.

I've done the same thing with my daughter. We celebrate the major Christian holidays. I teach her basic Christianity and she has a children's Bible that she reads on her own and will sometimes ask questions, but I've also explained a little about some other beliefs such as reincarnation which she really likes. I want her to follow her heart. She knows right from wrong and is an exceptionally sweet and bright child, she'll make the decision that's right for her.

I did most of my research about different religions on the net. There are a lot of discussion groups out there too. I used to get daily e-mails, like devotionals, from several religions. You might want to investigate different beliefs via the net to give you some insight. :)

                          Christian

I wasnt raised to be religiouse but my parents would attend church to light a candle and pray on occasions. I wont lie, like many of you, I have at times questioned if God (jesus) exists but in the end, I have realized that God exists.

I have somewhat studied evolution through my antropology class and reading books such as "Summer for the Gods" by Edward J. Larson. And I just dont believe that we, humans were created from some form of dirt or bacteria :). Even the austraphitic (sp) "people" believed in a divine power (God)

I was also raised Roman Catholic. My mother is protestant my father is Roman Catholic they had to agree to raise the children Catholic in order for the church to allow my parents to get married. When I reached the age where I started to ask questions my parent encouraged me to look in to other religions and decide for myself. I decided that religion was not for my and decided I would just live my life so I do what I feel is right and not hurt anyone.
I can’t believe myself that there is one god that created everything. Where did God come from? Nobody can answer that question. At least creation ism has some type of documented proof. I also believe organized religion is the scam going. If you believe fine Make you connection to “God” and live your life how you think he wants you to. But to think that t must be done through a church and only think and do what they say is outrageous.

Here is another question I have about things in the bible. Why is it that in the days of the bible god was talking to everyone and performing miracles all the time? What happened the miracles stopped and if some says they talked to god they are locked up and drugged till start thinking the right way. Did “God” give up on us?

i am an atheist. I was raised a catholic for 18 years and then changed. My change resulted from the readings of Ayn Rand and my interest in science. added to that the inconsistencies of any religion and I just couldn't see myself agreeing with any of that.
