  • The Passion of the Christ movie review thread

I just saw it and would really like to talk about it, but I dont want to ruin it for people who have not yet seen it by talking about it in other threads so I made this one. If you havent seen the movie, close the thread now, because if you read specific details I think the movie will be ruined for you. Its bad enough you already know what happens to Jesus.

    Ok.

-What was your favorite part of the movie?

Mine was the opening scene when Jesus was being tempted by the devil. Awsome scene.

-I really liked how the movie was in the ancient language, for years I have thought we were pronouncing his name incorrectly and this movie gave some insight into that. I think it really helped with believability and in the dating and setting of the movie.

-The way Jesus fell when arrying the cross irritated me LOL. The way it was so repetative. No one falls the same way twice, especially those dramatic falls. I wish that was given some variety.

-I liked how even though he was bloody and beaten you could still see his eyes. (or eye). It was more dramatic and made him seem more godlike.

-I think if he wasnt crucified he surely would have died from his wounds anyway.

-I loved the insight into the Roman conflict. This was a glimpse into the fall of the empire. Up until now I had only seen references to Roman strength and superiority. This was a weakened society, weakened by its own brutality. I found it fascinating.

-I really have walked away with an appreciation for todays society. I had always thought that the 20th century was one of the most brutal. Now I know I was wrong, and that even in the worst of times, it was a cake walk compared to 2000 years ago. Things are getting better, even the violence. The scale of deaths seems to be greater, but the method of war and punishment is far more humaine.

Not a chance, today we have technolgy which makes killing quick and relatively painless. Not to mention all the "rules of war" established by the Geneva Convention that entitles the enemy to some rights on the battle field (WTF?!?). Nothing today is as brutal as the past conflicts and civilizations.

Yes I see that now. I was so preoccupied with the scale of war I never stopped to think about it on an individual level. I was thinking that in the old days it was maybe an army of a couple thousand at best, compared to todays millions who put it on the line to die. I would much rather die from a fast gunshot/gas/or be incinerated by a bomb then have to go through the torturous death of the ancient weaponry. Like in braveheart in the battlefield, guys are still moving hours after the battle, but there is no hope for them, they will die. I used to think the guillotine and hangings were barbaric. But compared to a crucifixion... you cant even compare. To read it and to see it are 2 competely different things. I walked away with that much.

I saw it last night and I am going to see it again in about 1 hour. I am an atheist I have stated before, but I found it to be exactly as the bible relates the story. I think the only thing different is show the vicsiousness of the jews against him and how much they feared him. maybe that is why the jewish community thought it was anti-semetic. but it does show what was believed to be happening, I don't think it is racist to show history through a point of view.

Just now got back from seeing it , and well I have mixed feelings on it. By the time they got to the end I was just sick of it. I'm not a religious person and found it rather confusing. I don't know the actual story nor have I ever read anything in the bible. Knowing nothing about how the bible is written, I can see why some of the jewish people were pissed about the movie. I had to ask my girlfriend after the movie " Did the Jewish really kill jesus?" I also did not understand the devils roll in the movie. Was it the devil that had warped the minds of the people to kill jesus? This may sound dumb, but I have no idea.

For anyoine that has read the bible. What happens after he is ressurected! It seemed like a pretty good story to me, maybe I'll read the bible to get the whole thing.

In the bible the devil tempted Jesus which is what that was all about. He was still just a man that had to pass the temptation test. I read part of it so that I wouldnt be confused during the movie just in case :D I cant remember what happens after ressurection, just that he goes to hell and then goes to heaven. There was one part that I read that made it sound like god had several "sons" on earth but was particulary happy with the actions of this one. Thats just my personal interpretation. I see if I can find it...

it's pretty much taken word from word from the bible. through my 13+ years of catholic school studies i learned that there were people out in the crowd handing out money to get the crowd to condemn him. i saw it sunday and have said before that i am atheist but have to say that watching it was one of the hardest things i've ever watched. it's a great movie and having seen it now i have to totally agree with Mrs.P and can't see how parents took their children to see it. i'm 23 and have seen and done enough in my life to not be affected in such a way that i was watching it. it's a movie i feel everyone SHOULD watch but no children under 13 or older. i doubt i'll watch it again until i watch it with my son many years from now.

I've never heard about a mention of Jesus in the old testament. Where is he mentioned? And what is the reference to the father/son/holy ghost in the old testament that you're referring to?

You just answered your own question. The mention of Jesus in the Old Testament is: the father/SON/holy ghost...Obviously the SON is the reference to Jesus. The Bible makes many references to things that are not obvious.

I have yet to see the movie. I'm torn as to if I can take the violence or not. I want to see it because it seems to be so true. But then, to see another human being treated that way is unimaginable. Then again, I'm sure it reiterates the fact we didn't all get here by "Big Bang".
