Guys, this is so funny. This is not a dictatorship. That's why Bush doesn't scare me. He's not going to make this a theocracy or blow the nation's budget or cut down all our trees. He won't because he can't. The Congress won't let him. And even though there's a Republican majority, people still speak to their elected officials. And if these guys suck, it's your job and mine to vote them the fuck out. If you don't vote, keep your trap shut becuase you're just sitting back and letting life happen to you. (You suck and that's sad.)

I'm not a Bush lover, but I know that alot of the last 4 years just HAPPENED to Bush. The economy was going in the crapper from the beginning, and he didn't plan for 9/11. Question his actions, but Congress (inlcuding the guys who now condemn him) approved most of what he's done. As for the environment, I don't trust him with it - so I support people and organizations that fight for preservation and conservation. But, overall, I'm ok with what he's done and the "recovery" that continues.

He's nor perfect, but neither was anybody else. Name a guy and I'll give ya a few of his weak points. We all got 'em. We just support the guys who's weak points we can live with. Bush is a bible-toting, non-statesman who's heavy on terrorism and light on IQ. I can admit that. But, based on the team he's created, and the alternatives, I can live with it. That's all.

Fanaticism in either direction isn't for me.

It's not a dictatorship, but Americans are stupid. Hello? Anyone in there? All I can say to this is he suggest amending the constitution to make it illegal for gays to wed. First off I believe that to be a horrible action on his part, but as I can see half of the country either doesnt care or says no to gay marriage. Thats all fine and dandy, but the reason he wants to amend the constituion is because of what the bible says. Well, first, not everyone believes in the bibles, second SOME religions allow gay marriage under the church. So, if that is not a religion biased government, SOMETHING OUR FOUNDING FATHERS DIDN'T WANT AT ALL, I dunno what is.

Here in DC, everybody knows the ammendment is a ruse. There is no serious intent to go forward with that. It is Bush's response to his conservative constituency, but it will die in committee. He knows it. A Republican senator as much as said so to the Log Cabin Republican convention this weekend. And, by the way, it also helps deflect alot of the fire that the REAL radicals and fundamentalists have lit. As I've said before, politics is always a game of some sort - and you and I rarely benefit in the end.

As for the founding fathers, I would hate to interpret anything in 2004 based on their perceptions. Their one timeless gift was a LIVING Constitution that is updated through ammendement. If not, we'd all still have slaves working in the fields, and the FF's own religious bias would probably jail all gays, too.

So, thank God (figuratively and literally) for free thinkers.

Considering something so ridiculous as amending the constitution so that it becomes religion biased...that is ridiculous. It is also not too much to ask a normal person to say no to such an act.

What confuses is me is how our constitution can become religion based at the same time we have idiots fighting to take "under god" off of our money and out of the "pledge of allegance".

Religion plays less and less of a part in our lives each passing year. I highly doubt our country will just switch over to a religous mode. I agree with you Chris, that everyone should be treated equally, and that this amendment is a stupid idea. But maybe Bush is a little more old-fashioned and against gay marriage (ignorance is bliss). It's just our opinions, and others, versus his. Guess that's what voting is for.

I'm not even religious, or against gays. But would I rather vote for a guy who actually has the balls to fight terrorism, or vote for Kerry and hope to god he was nothing like Bill Clinton? Tough choice. I think Bush is doing a decent job right now, and it would be a risk voting for Kerry. A risk many are probably willing to take. Luckily, it's a choice I won't have to make. I think they're both idiots, and couldn't vote for either of them.

Heres the deal. Old fashioned or not, amending the constitution...it just leaves me speechless most of the time. It seems so stupid to me that if, religion plays less and less a role, why people are so affended by gay marriage, but I am getting off-topic. It's the fact that he wants to amend the constitution.

As far as how he has fought terrorism. He did do a good job in the begining. He did a very good job. We went in and tore up as many sects of Al Queda as I believe he could have, but when he decided to avenge his father, I got a little upset. It would be one thing if he had just said, "Here's the deal, Sadam treats his people like shit." and then gone in, but he didn't. He decided that it would be a better idea to tell his citizens that Saddam had WMD (a term that is so overly used its a joke). By playing on the fear and ignorance of our country he pissed me off good. Doing something like taht is not cool. That makes you a pretty big fucker, IMO. Allas I am still glad we got rid of Mr. Hussain(sp) out. I don't know what else to say.

Lordikon, just vote 3rd party so that we can get out of this crappy 2 party system.

Amending the Constitution is the most American thing in the world. Remember, that's how women got the vote, blacks got equality, and we all got protection from boiler room working conditions. Amendments don't PASS unless a majority (Congress) favors them and votes so. It's our system. If an amendement fails, there's a message there, too.

People can't help but have their own religion biases. Even those of us who try hard not to let ours infringe upon others usually do so because of an underlying conviction. Being atheist and agnostic is also a religious position. We all have our points of view, and that's not gonna change.
