If you have a month to get ready for it. Look up some proper ways to punch. You might as well train right if you're going to train. Just like lifting weights, if you're going to do it do it right.

Doing so will greatly improve your punching power and total body endurance. Such as doing 50 upper cuts with one arm and then the other will kill you and not just your arm because the movement will come from your mid section.

Just look up some things. It's all easy, to pick up on the hard part is training yourself to do it when you're tired. Such as when you jab having your chin down and covered by your pounching shoulder. Just things of that nature that make a lot of sense but becomes difficult to train your body to do when you're tired.

Again, good luck with it all and I hope to hear that you won yourself $1,000 a month from now.

If you can speed rope then do it. Hopefully that'll add some agility and you'll be able to dodge some of the punches. Once you get the stamina to hit the bag that long, then you'll be whippin some ass. :whip:

When I boxed it was a lot of fun, but my advice to you like the other guys said is to cover your head really well.

If you are taller than him, try to stay farther away from the person. If he is a lot shorter than you if he has any clue he will always try to come in close so protect your chin and body. If you are the smaller guy than do the opposite and just be an overall pain in the ass to aggravate him. When I was learning my trainer was about 6'5 and I'm 5'8. I always had a very sore and bruised forehead from all of those jabs, but it makes you learn to either protect your head or keep getitng in real close so he can't use his reach against you.

For training you could go running, and sprint every other telephone pole, or if you live in the city every other block. Invest in some hand wraps to protect your knuckles and most importantly wrists.

And last! Beat the piss out of him. It's 1g we're talking about here.

It looks like we are all getting behind you and pulling for you in this fight. All the advice has been good. Let me add a technique to work on if you are not experienced. Assuming you are right handed, this is a basic combination that works wonders. Left jab, straight right, left hook, right to the body. Pop, pow, boom, thud. Do that over and over and you will do lots of damage. Practice the punches on your bag over and over while keeping your chin tucked behind your shoulder. Wax on, wax off, as Mr. Miaggee said.

I liked what Pointcove told you about the three point combination. Left jab-straight right-left hook to the liver area. If you add two more to that, you have an awsome combo that will finish most people. Left jab-straight right or right cross to the head-left hook to the body followed immediately with a left hook to the head, then another straight right to the head. 5 point combo. You can throw all these in less than 3 seconds. If you connect with this 5 point and connect well and the guy is still standing-----GET THE HELL OUT OF THE RING, LOL!! BB

If you learn the punches and can throw them quickly. An uppercut in the chin to pop their head up and out in the open followed by a hook works very well. My preference was a left uppercut followed by right hook, but only because I felt more comfortable and quicker that way.

Uppercuts should also really be thrown from slightly crouched down position and from your chin area. Come upwards with the punch and use your legs and hips. NO swooping your arm down and then upwards thats a no-no and would be asking for a punch to the head

Uppercuts do work well, but only in certain circumstances. In most cases, throwing an uppercut leaves you too open for a counter--either a left hook or right cross, according to which hand you've thrown. Uppercuts work best in very close "in fighting". NEVER, NEVER throw an uppercut from the outside. But hey, I'm acting like thge guys you're going to fight are skilled fighters, they aren't. Just stick to the basics--good strong snapping jabs, hooks and crosses when you are able to "sit down" on your punches, meaning you have your feet planted firmly and on balance and can turn your entire body into the punch--that generates knockout power, not arm punches. worse thing you can do is under estimate the guy across from you. don't get me wrong make him come get his respect but you walk in there too cocky and some dude will fix that. beat him with your mind. your already tryin to be smarter about it and thats good but keep your whits about you when the gloves start flyin. pick your shots and make them count. conditioning is at the top of the list. ya gotta have gas in the tank to throw hands when your opponent is breathin hard and his puches slow down take advantage of this situation and make your shots count. hit first fast and hard!
