HARD WORK, the kind of work that turns you into a robot. The world cant stand to see a powerful women. How bout Oprah? I bet you cant stand her either.
Martha and Oprah are two different kinds of people with completely different personalities. Yes, you need to be dedicated to your work to become successful in the business world but you don't have to be a prick to everyone beneath you. If you listen to anyone who's worked with either of these two women you will see they are quite different. I have no sympathy for people who treat others like dirt.

They've made an example out of Marth Stewart and I don't think they could have picked a better woman to do it to. Hope they make her work in the kitchen while she's in jail.

I just dont agree at all. Do you know how many multi-million air men treat people like dirt? Out of the thousands of men CEO's that have done the same thing as martha has, they choose to make her an example. I dont know about you but I would much rather be a rich asshole then a poor gentlemen.

Martha is simply not a very nice person by most accounts and she acts as if she is beyond reproach. As Mrs. Puddles says, she and Oprah are nothing alike in personality. Oprah at least HAS a personality. Yes, it takes hard work to get to where she was and I can respect people who are successful in their field regardless of their gender. Do a search on Martha and see how sweet of a person she really is. I'll bet that you'll only find good things said about her from those who have never even met her. Try to find info about her character to get a better understanding of what makes her tick. I have no respect for those who treat others as if they are morons or are in some way view others as beneath them. Martha is both of these things. She broke the law, got caught, got let off quite easy and has the audacity to complain about her extremely light sentence. Remember, her greed and deceitful practices are what got her into trouble in the first place. She should have been tried for insider trading too. I stand by my assertation that she is a bitch and I'm glad she was convicted.

No way, $ is not everything....in the grand scheme of things, I would much rather be liked and have a life filled with people and love than to be rich and grouchy and hated all my life.

You do realize that she is not going to jail because of insider trading right? She is going to jail for lieing to investagators. She wasnt even under oath when she lied to them.

Also, you talk about her character, who cares about her character? Donald Trump is one of the biggest assholes in the world but yet he is looked as someone to respect and yet martha is simply looked at as a bitch? Answer me this bro, would you rather be a rich asshole or a poor nice guy? I have nothing but respect for Martha and she did nothing that is not done every day in big companys.

Money and what it brings does not impress me. It's what's in a person's heart that does. Of course it's really nice when the two are combined. :D

Martha is the only really successful woman in recent years who's been put out there like this but there have been pleanty of successful men who's lives have been made public through trial. They may just be trying to show that women aren't immune from criminal prosecution either.

I could be off-base here but from what I gather on this thread is that you feel that she shouldn't be held accountable to the law because:

                          a) Martha Stewart is a successful female entreprenuer and has done nothing that her male CEO counterparts haven't done in the past.

                          b) She is being singled out for prosecution because she is a woman in high financial standing and the conviction and resulting sentencing was a frivolous action by our justice system.

I cannot agree on this issue. Regardless of gender, Martha broke a federal law and now stands a convicted felon. She gives no quarter and deserves no quarter. She absolutely knew the consequences of her actions when she lied to federal investigators and still decided to take her chances on not getting convicted. She lost that gamble and now is whining about having to pay her service to the courts. Because she is a woman or has done something others have done in the past should she be just let go with a warning? No. If you or I were found guilty of the same offense, we surely would be expected to pay our debt to society yet you think that she should be let off with what- a censure? C'mon, bro... It's one thing if you don't feel that the crime was basically a harmless one but it is not. People were taken and lost money because she had insider trading tips and dumped her stock illegally. That she was not prosecuted on that count is irrelevant for our purposes here. She still broke a law in which she was convicted on. You can respect her if you so choose but she is a lying, backstabber who got caught committing a federal crime and now she has to pay for it. She maintains an arrogance about her as claims that she is in the same category as other famous people who had to spend time in jail- namely Nelson Mandela- as if she is some poor persecuted soul or a political dissident. She's a meglomaniac and delusional and I have no repect for her. I hope that she's the first in a long line of white collar prosecutions for insider trading and SEC violations. I'm sick of these assholes getting preferential treatment because they are corporate criminals.

Do you feel that Ken Lay from Enron or Old Man Rigas from Adelphia Communications should just be let go since they have achieved a level of business prominence and built their companies from the ground up or are they just being picked on too? There is no difference whether a criminal uses a gun or a pen to cheat, steal or embezzle corporate funds or publically held stock- They are just as guilty of a crime and deserve no special considerations. Equal justice in a court of law for all citizens in the US is what this country was founded upon, not justice for those who can't afford to get good lawyers and hold press conferences.

We can just agree to disagree, I guess.

No, I think she should serve her time for breaking the law just like anyone else. My whole problem with people is how they love to hate her and call her a bitch. She is no different then many other male CEO's but for some reason they are not looked at the same.

Maybe I should have just called her an asshole, lol. You don't have to be rich or successful to be considered a bitch but she definitely is one. I have read about Martha and saw interviews and heard testimonials from those who were in close dealings with her, including her own daughter a year before this scandal ever broke and I was convinced that she wasn't a very nice person back then.

Martha always acts as if she is above everything and without fault yet she is merely a self-centered, egotistical snob who treats others around her as if they merely exist to serve her. Hence, she is a bitch. True, it is purely my opinion but that is my right. I also have had the misfortune of personally knowing a couple of not-so-well-off bitches too (no, not ex-girlfriends either) and I don't categorize very many women as such nor am I considered a a sexist by those who know me. You really have to stand out to be a bitch in my book. If a man acts like Martha, he obviously isn't a bitch (as that is a term reserved for a female) but instead, he would be considered a prick or fucking asshole. If the common concensus is that she is a bitch, then there may be some truth behind it. I'm suprised that her head even fit into the court room doorway.
