Why do guys ask a girl for their number...

I have a friend who this happens to a lot. No matter where we go, guys will always wind up asking her for her number before we leave, then, most of the time they never call her back. She winds up dissapointed and it's getting old. Why do guys ask for a number from a girl but then they don't ever call?

If they had been asking while drinking, could be liquid courage. Then the next day they may think she is too pretty for them, and not bother. That or they were just after sex, and have a partner, so decided against calling.
Or they just wanted to see if they could get her number to help their self-esteem.
Why do men do anything at all is beyond me.. Lol. Jk.

I can't answer that because if I ever did the foot work to get a girls number then I would use it. Otherwise I wouldn't waste my time in the first place. She might be in the wrong scene to meet guys who actually WANT to talk to her. Obviously most of these guys either have girls already and are playing the field still or they get mutiple numbers in a week and just don't give a shit about the ones they don't use. I don't like guys like that because it makes all our reps bad. I love treating women like the wonderful creatures they are. To see their faces light up when I do something nice for them or tell them they look nice or anything at all makes my day as well as theirs. There is no reason to treat anyone bad .

Have had a guy actually ask for my number, and then while I was standing there, he took out his cell, called my number and leave me a message on my machine. That was funny and a bit too much for me. lol.

It goes both ways. A girl will be interested but has a man so nothing will come of it. They just want to keep there options open. Some think they would like to just have some fun with you but want more and don't relize it or vice versa. So they are just confused. A few give a number but the girl was to nice to say they weren't interested. Either way that's why I don't ask for phone numbers. I will wait until they give me there number. I know I don't lead on and wouldn't take a number if I don't want it. So if they give it to me then that's one bit of less bullshit I have to deal with usually.

adding to this girls that I really want to talk to I will find what they are interested and make it a point to see them in person and get to know them. I hate the phone honestly. if they all fell off the face of the earth tomorrow I would be happy. :D

Sometimes I'm really drunk and the number goes through the wash and gets ruined, or I simply misplace it because I'm drunk...

I don't know why a guy wouldn't call. I mean I would if I had the number. The worst that I expect to happen is to find out that I made a mistake. But I can get too busy to call or lose the number.

The bigger questions is: why do women give out fake numbers? If a man is interested enough in you to ask for your number, have the decency to let him know you are not interested. Why yank his chain? You just ruin it for other women, because that's one more man who either won't ask or who won't call even if he has the number. The onus is on women to stop being superficial. No matter how society changes or how many women are working, that's the way it is. Ultimately, men have the power to choose. Deal with it, and you will land a sane man. Otherwise, chances are that you'll do the jerk circuit into your 50s.

And why isn't your friend asking guys out? Does she have a speech impediment?

She is pretty old fashioned when it comes to dating...she's from Spain and just wouldn't ever ask a guy for his number.


I remember one weekend about 2 months ago where we went to a resteraunt that has an outside bar on the water with live music and dance floor. Mostly people in their 30's - 50's which is perfect as she's 40. This younger guy (32 y.o.) and his friend ask us to join them for drinks and I say that I can't can't accept a drink because I'm married but my friend can. My friend had told me an hour before the guys walked up that they were looking at us. I don't even notice it when that happens because I'm married and just not interested in who's looking at who when we're out. Anyway, we spent the rest of the night bs'ing with them and the guy and her seem to be hitting it off well. He programs her number into his cell AND she gives him her business card. Well, all week, nothing. We wound up back there the following weekend and guess what...those two guys are there and each one is with a girl but you can tell it's not just casual, they are definitely attached. As we walk by my friend smiles at the guy she was talking to and he ignores her, just looks away. Obviously he is with his girlfriend and he does not want to strike up another conversation. The other guy came over a bit later and said they'd come over to chat in a bit but 30 minutes later they hadn't left their spot and I was ready to go home so we left. I'll never understand the whole dating thing, thank goodness I'm married. LOL
