You are making a critical error my Canadian friend. It IS their culture to hate our culture.
Remember, regardlees of whether we think we are or not, they believe they are at war with us. A holy war at that.
PS... They want you Kanucks dead too. There is no nuetral ground this time. :usa:

history has shown countless times that when people are in a desperate economic situation, they resort to religious fundamentalism, or as people have branded the iraq version, terrorism. simply put, there are 2 ways to eliminate this... the way that has been brought up on this board: kill everyone that has any affiliation to the suffering economy, or you can help their economy which is the approach that bush is taking... you can decide for yourselves which seems more reasonable

The economies of most Middle Eastern countries generally consist of a few filthy rich families who control the oil while most everyone else is poor. The governments encourage religious extremism and hatred for the west and basically anyone non- Muslim while they get richer and richer by selling oil. These governments would much rather have their people blame the west for their problems instead of blaming their own leaders. Saddam Hussein and his sons would always act like devout muslims when they were in the public eye- allah this, allah that. But their homes were filled with drugs, alcohol, porn, prostitutes, etc. They were living the high life while portraying themselves as heroes of Islam.
You say that the terrorists are practicing religious fundamentalism, but we have "branded" it as terrorism. I didn't realize that kidnapping American and British civil engineers, who were there helping rebuild Iraqs infrastructure, and slowly cutting their heads off was a religious act. Sounds like terrorism to me, and religion and a bad economy don't quite justify the act. If these guys wanted to fight and die for Allah, then they wouldn't need to kidnap and butcher civilian contractors. If they want to fight, there are plenty of soldiers there to accomodate them. We need to be involved in the Middle East because we need oil. Other than that, I really don't think it's Americas job to fix their economies and fix everything that is broken- we need to do that at home first. I don't think that everyone in the Middle East is a terrorist nutcase that must be killed, but I don't think there will ever be a great friendship between us, and thats fine with me. We should do whatever we have to do to get oil and keep them from trying to kill us, nothing more. I would like to think that most of the people over there are decent people, but I can't help but remember the news coverage of the reaction after 9/11 in many cities in the Middle East. People dancing in the streets, celebrating the fact that thousands of people had been murdered, and handing out candy to little kids, who will grow up idolizing terrorists and will want to follow in their footsteps.
