    Of course there are multiple theories abut this as well. Including being named after a tax collector, spanish sailor, and/or derived from a Norse word. Who knows for sure???

      Just because I had the misinformation that he discovered it, I was just curious if the history of the name was wrong too.

        Who knows. Our entire lives are based on "theory." I also read that Vespucci's actual Italian name is Alberigo, but he changed it to Amerigo to take credit for America's name (or something like that)....???

        The Vespucci theory seems to be the most widely accepted.
