That may indeed be true, but it's only because many people buy and train them to do so. If the trend would have been that Poodles 30 years ago had been trained to be aggressive and to be a fighting dog, they now would have a "black mark" on them too. It's a fad, buying Pitbulls, simply because they have the rep, (because of stupid people buying and training improperly), to be vicicious. People made the Pitbull seem to be "bad dog", it's not the dog itself, but the breed will pay the price. BB

He's not aggressive at all. Very nice around people and other dogs it knows. Just hasn't been listening well. It knows how to be gentle. When I play with him he may bite me, but just enough pressure that I can feel it, never hurts.

It's been awhile since I looked but last I recall Chow's were at the top of the list.

Actually after looking, G Shepards are at the top followed by a few others Chows, Akitas, Great Danes and some others, but that is for bite stats. As far as fatalities from dog attacks PB's and Rott's were srespnsible for something like 80% of all dog related deaths.

Don't get my stance wrong. I love APBT's and I am a firm believer that it is the owner and blood line not the dog itself. But I just thought it was funny that Dachsunds were brought into the mix.

There is no evidence to support that myth. There isn't any dog that has been proven to have any type of locking mechanism in its jaw.

By the way, if you just popped in to post sarcastic comments then you can quietly leave the same way you came in. This thread was posted for a serious reason. If you don't have anything mature to say don't say anything at all. ;)

My mom has had Dachshund's for ever. It may have been that dog. My mom's couldn't hurt anything if it tried lol. Your friends children may have been small, and these dogs can get scared easily. Sometimes snap out of fear of being hurt. I garantee I would rather my mom's Dachshund bite me than our Pit. My grandmas Mini-Pin got hit by a car right in front of me about 6 months ago. I tried to help it and it just kept biting me. Got bit twice and had to rip my hand out of it's mouth. Took a while to heal but didn't need to go to the doctor. If it was our pit, I'm sure my hand would have been in need of a doctor. I think picking one dog over another all has to do with you living situation. All goes back to bonebreaker's point about a dog being a dog.

I didnt see anything wrong with what you said. I love pitbulls and agree with what you said. The owner makes the dog what he is, but I still would feel more comfortable with another breed around my child then a pitbull regardless of the stats

Nice pup, it looks like they may have botched the ear crop, unless he has them pulled back. This is the pic of the stud from the kennel I was getting mine from until I moved into the "no pets allowed" complex.
