Do points on your license follow you from state to state? Lets say I had 6 points on my license in New Jersey. Then I move to NC and have an NC license and the car is registered in NC and all that. Will those 6 points stay on my license from New Jersey or do they clear from state to state. I got pulled over today and got a ticket that will add 2 points to my license. She asked me if I had any tickets on my lisence in the last 3 years and I said no forgetting about my 4 point ticket in Jersey about 8 months ago. She went and checked and everything came back clean and clear. This has me thinking that when you move to a different state your points "slate" gets wiped clean. Anyone have any idea? thanks

Only felony charges cross state lines. Different states have different ways of evaluting your driving records. I know I had a warrant for a ticket in california, but I don't have to worry about it unless I go back to california. So yes, basically anytime you move to another state you get a fresh start. Now your insurance is a different story. If they find a reason to they will check nation wide.

 Don't you think that's a sign that you should slow down man? I'd figure they'd have taken your license away by now with all those points. :nono:Originally posted by THE BOUNCERi have a clean slate besides the 2 points that i got today in NC?

thats not true i had to go to a driving class for having to many points on my license and sumone asked the question if i got a ticket in another state will it affect my license, b/c when ur on probation period (1 year) and u get any violations that carry points in nj or any other state it will affect you so maybe you jsut got lucky but i wouldnt be so sure about it...

most insurance companys wont bat an eye at a 2 point ticket. even if it does go up a bit. it will be nothing compared to what it was in NJ.Originally posted by red_devil1469Well Bouncer depending on what the ticket is for your insurance may go up.A little link to read up on NC's insurance point scam.
