man B, I am in the exact same situtation, after the break-up of a very serious 4 year relationship and just needing to get outta there, I left florida for ATL.... very hard on me.. all my friends live in FL, I've been there for so long, it's only been a week and I'm dying, but it just takes time to find cool people to chill with, find a good gym, all that shit.

i hear it gets a little easier with time but shit it takes a while it seems

Bouncer you'll adjust. You just have to give it some time. It's like going to a new school. You'll find people you can hang out with and adjust in no time. I know I am gonna feel the same way when I move in a couple years and it's gonna suck to holy hell but you'll end up finding out it's for the better. You have someone with you and that should make it alot easier. Imagine if Sana didn't go. You would have started a thread saying you went back to Jersey lol.

Well B...sorry to hear about you being homesick. I guess what I would suggest is trying to find those places in NC that remind you or make you feel like you are back in NJ. Maybe start with a restaraunt or club or sports bar. Find one or all of them, there are bound to be other people there , like you, with the same interests or hobbies. Start meeting others and making new friends. You will always miss home but once you start geeting out and making the adjustments it will ease up. Best of luck Bro!

              Oh shit, lol.

Having been born and bred in NJ, and overall about 1/2 of my life up north and 1/2 in south can say you're pretty much right on, vast differences, and pace of things much much different.

Overall, faster pace leads to higher stress. Lower pace, less stress. This does take awhile to get use to.

Again, overall, generally in south communities, and ie, the people you know will be around for long long time, thus emphasis is placed on getting along with others, on the surface at least.

Up north, screw it, population concentration is so high you can find a new friend in a few weeks just walking down the street.

Hell, could go on & on, yet it's major league different in many ways.

If something is really bothering you, then just bs in general, let me know.

When we first moved to FL Stromba hated how different it was from NY. The ONLY good thing for him was having so much of his family down here. But that wasn't enough and we wound up back in NY after nearly 2 yrs. That didn't last long though and we were back in FL about 6 months later. We had a new appreciation for the differences between the two areas.

I remember when I first started working down here. I worked for a Temp. agency as a secretary. They told me I had to slow down! One job that was supposed to take me 3 days to complete I had it done in the first half of the first day. I was used to NYC paced work.

FL is different than NC though. There are a lot of people originally from NY/NJ here so that makes it a lot better. Our favorite resteraunts are all Italian with NY owners, go figure. There is a larger mix of people here in FL which is like NYC too.

Try to seek out some spots in your area where there's more diversity and maybe you'll find the kind of people you're used to.

Lived in Chicago for 8 years and then moved down to Cajun Country South Louisiana. Talk about a culture shock. Went from living in a suburb right outside the city to living in the country where there are cane fields for miles and miles.

It will definitely take time, lots of time, but you will adjust. I'm sure you think there is nobody there like back home but I assure you there are some people there that will resemble or act like or make you think about people back home. You just have to make friends with them and it'll make the transition easier.

The only town I ever spent time in in NC is Charlotte. I was there this spring. If Charlotte is faster pace I'd hate to see what slow is! It is a beautiful area though.

I'm don't understand the red or blue comment. Fill me in please!
