  • How does 47K sound for you all?

Do u all think this is a good start pay. Im not sure if u need a degree for this but would be useful. Hopefully with an associates i can make 48-50k.

Sounds pretty good. Wish I made that much. Without a degree that's good stuff, if you had a full ba, then that's low.

where the hell do you guys live, getting out of college no one I really no starts off making 47k, and if you can make that without a degree then thats phenominal. It generally takes 2 to 3 years to be making closer to 50 after school from experiences with my friends.

It obviously depends on the hiring company and the profession. I started right out of school at more than 50% more than that--I admit I got lucky, but don't undersell yourself. I only expected to be at 45-50K, but I sensed (with my mad poker skills!) that I could get more out of them and went for it and got it!

I've heard they pay more here in the west. But cost of living is higher as well. You should see how much it cost to buy houses here.

For law enforcement that's low compared to california. Here in cali, LE starts out around $55k and chp at $50k.

As for living here, its ok but the thing that sucks is we have one of the highest when it comes to houses. Fuck a small home 100k here. If u want a decent one around 150-250k. Buddies have been telling me to move up to San Antonio or Austin, could get a good home a decent size one i want for 100-200k.
You'll be able to clear the easily with that salary. Homes here are on the average of $300-400k now. I don't think you can even find a piece of shit anymore for around $200k. Are they paying to put you through the academy for the POST or do you need to do that first before you can get the job?

IMO, depends more on where you live and what exactly you are doing. Getting into the medical field, there is a demand for nursing skills, so you can generally land a pretty good job and pay. But, cost of living has something to do with pay too. Just because one state pays a certain salary for a particular job, another state may have lower cost of living and not pay as much for the same job.

One thing you want to think twice about doing is to skip college because you got a good job now without a degree. In a few years, a lack of a college education may become a liability. And once you have a family and are accustomed to a certain lifestyle, it is very hard to go back to being a penniless student again, so if you can, get your schooling done before you enter the job market full-time.

IMO its not enuf for my lifestyle, but then again I love my toys, the wage is all dependant on where u live housing costs and how comfy you wanna live, but remem its starting pay so there will be a time when the wage increases esp if you do well
