  • Just pissed

So, this is just me ranting cause nobody else understands what this is going to mean to me--I know some of you will be able to sympathize though. I broke rib #5 fighting and, needless to say, it hurts to move, breathe, lay down, etc. So, obviously, I'm not going to be lifting for a good 4 weeks at a minimum. I can't do anything at this point that requires motion of the rib cage without extreme, sharp pain--I tried a 5lb dumbell chest press and almost cried! I'm going to try to do some lower body and maybe bicep workouts weekly, but I really want to just let it heal properly so I can get back to doing everything all out again. I haven't had to take this kind of time off for about 4years and I suspect that nobody is going to want to be around me for the next month cause I will be a royal bitch. I admit I'm addicted to working out and I will be going through severe withdrawal.
I still have to decide what diet to follow to make sure I don't lose too much but also don't get fat. I'm leaning toward a 30/50/20 at my new inactive BMR/AMR to make sure I get enough protein.
This month is going to suck!!!! :thumbsdow :bawl:

that sucks! real painful hope you get better soon bro. I would continue exercising uninjured parts during recovery.

edit: how did it happen a punch or kick? competition?

For the times needed you can get a 3in ace wrap and put it around your rib cage for support. Just like you see when they wrap a fighters ribs with tape.

It was a defensive back kick--just sparring at a gym I go to every Sunday. The stupid thing pops every time I move or breathe deeply, so I've started taping/wrapping it cause I'm pretty sure that it'll heal faster if I limit the motion.

There's no way I can do chest, tris, back, deads with this injury so it's gonna be a long, frustrating recovery time.

Is it better to use an ace wrap or tape it? It seems like a non-stretchable tape material would be better but is a tight ace wrap equally good? My injury care knowledge sucks, so I appreciate any advice. Thx!

I'd go with ever feels better. You wouldn't want to tape it too tight. It's also harder to tape yourself correctly. With the 3in (meaning a long ace when rolled up) will cover as a support area and lower the chance of point pressure. Mostly though the ace wrap is just easier.

My suggestion would be to take the month off. I know its hard but you can come back and hit the gym with a vengance. Instead of getting in piss poor workouts and slowing the recovery time, let your body heel bro.

I agree, don't test your boundaries till you are healthy.

LOL, I know, but I'm being optimistic. I figure I should be able to do low impact things and higher rep workouts in 4wks. I'm planning on trying to take it easy for 4wks and then ease back into things. Hopefully then at 6wks I'll be full strength. I'm supposed to be in a martial arts tournament in 6wks, so I better be back by then!
