I meant to say Switzerland in place of Austria (they are right next door to each other so I just got them confused). The SWITZERLAND VS. UKRAINE game was very good IMO...

Well getting to see the first shoot out was cool. But the ref was just as bad with not calling fouls as the ones that call way too many. I can see keeping the yellow cards to minimum, but there should have been a lot more key fouls called on both sides. I feel sorry for anyone that just started watching soccer. This game didn't have the excitement of a usual soccer game.

The shoot out was nice to see and I agree that the ref's were too damn cautious with calling what they were seeing but I'm sure that the last few days has put some pressure on them to keep things in play. However, there were several instances where injuries (or at least potential injuries) could have been prevented if they had called the game like they should have.

As for the excitement factor, you're right, people new to the sport wouldn't really know why I thought it was a good game. I suppose I appreciated it because both teams did an excellent job with defense and there were a couple (though few and far between) of instances that I jumped up. Ukraine had some good things happening for them offensively in the first 30 minutes or so but then things went to mainly just trying to keep the other team from scoring.

Agreed... I thought it was a shitty game... lazy passes, no movement off the ball, terrible set peices (except for the two plays that went off the crossbar), not alot of switching fields... overall one of the worst games of the worldcup IMO, if Ukraine plays like that against Italy, they'll get blown out like they did against Spain

France vs. Spain, another game with a horrible call for a yellow card, which led to a goal off the set kick. It wasn't the deciding factor since France scored again after that, but a call like that can really change the game. FIFA needs to do something about it.

It was a good move no doubt. But the kick over the top to place it perfectly to him was more impressive to me. As you watch more games you will see most players, espeacially forwards, at this level have really really good "dance" moves (footwork). It makes me think of when a running back shakes somone out of there shoes. You see it a lot, but it's always cool to see. I love this game.

Ronaldinho...He gives me the absolute creepy crawleys to look at, but he is a footwork master.

That was a crap game, I'm sorry to be a bad sport but the ref was biased against us.

Anyway, getting to the quarters is an achievement.
