  • Savings Accounts

I recently (wish it was much sooner) came across (or payed attention too) ING Direct. It's free to open an account and you can link it to 3 other checking accounts. I then transfered all but a few hundred dollars of my savings from Bank of America into my ING account. It's rediculous. BofA's interest rate on savings acct's is 0.20% APY while ING's is 4.5% APY. Kind of a no brainer once you have the option.

The money I'm not using to invest is just sitting in an account somewhere so why not get as much as I can out of it, right?

Been using this since college. Used to put my loans in it for a few months before tuition had to be paid. Lived off of a little free money for a while.

There is actually a few banks that are offering high interest savings accounts right now. I just reccently looked into HSBC. The one I signed up for with them was 5.05%.

You forgot you had money in it, or you opened it and forgot to put money in it?

Both - I put a very small amount in and they put like $25 or so in. But since then I've forgotten about it and haven't put any more in....
