STAMFORD, Conn. – Canadian pro wrestler Chris Benoit has been found dead at his suburban Atlanta home along with his wife Nancy and son, World Wrestling Entertainment said Monday.

"There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities," the WWE statement said on its website.

WWE said information about the deaths came from "authorities" in Fayetteville County, Ga. A spokesman for the Peachtree City Police Department said he had no information on the report, telling a reporter to contact his superior on Tuesday.

WWE spokeswoman Cheryl Kong in Toronto said Monday night's ``Raw" TV program would serve as a tribute to Benoit and his family.

Benoit, 40, was born in Montreal and lived in Edmonton. He was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the website statement said.

Benoit was scheduled to wrestle at the Vengeance pay-per-view Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

This says to me that something is very wrong. He was obviously having big time personal issues just last night so much so that he didn't wrestle. I sure hope he didn't kill his family and himself. Media will be all over that in connection to steroids. I am sure their were steroids in his house.

        ABC NEWS.

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told ABC News that Benoit had missed several appointments over the weekend, leading concerned parties to ask police to do a "welfare check."

When sheriffs arrived at the Benoit home, they found the wrestler, his wife, and his son dead.

There was no sign of gunshot wounds or stabbing, according to Pope. But they are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation, or strangulation. Although Pope noted he was not "confirming" any of these causes, just not ruling them out at this time.

Holy fucking hell - I used to live RIGHT across the street from this guy - he helped me work on my first truck a few times and his little boy rode his bike all over our driveway asking questions the entire time - my parents even asked him to "keep an eye on [me]" once or twice when they went on vacations and left me alone all week etc - his wife was cool with my mom and she was really really nice to me every single time I saw her (he was gone quite a bit etc so she was usually alone and didn't seem to work) - the neighborhood is/was really quiet and that entire city is "protected" by some of the most strict cops you've ever seen - my dad's best friend was the chief of police at the time and he ran a tight ship (I'm not sure who this Jim Ross guy is though) - it didn't matter if you were in the nicest neighborhood or not he had cars patrolling EVERYWHERE in that town - I can't imagine it being anything other than something within his house going wrong - wth wth wth - just crazy...

I feel so so so bad for their family - that's just something no one should ever have to deal with....

            Double Murder-Suicide

It has been ruled that the deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel earlier today were the result of a double murder-suicide from within the home. WWE.com will have more as soon as it becomes available.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.

The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

Lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, told The Associated Press the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and that the causes of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday. Pope said the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.

The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers.

Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion. He also held several tag-team titles during his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

The native of Canada maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

"My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend," Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. "Chris was always first-class — warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business."

World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."

Who here thinks it was wrong of the WWE to have a 3 hour tribute for him last night? He is the killer of his wife and 7 year old child. I am not sure he deserved a 3 hour tribute.

I think I agree. I understand they're paying tribute/grieving over the loss of one of their own - and I'm sure he had problems we'll never know about. But he did not have to take the life of his wife or young child.

What's with some people are saying it's all a hoax?

On my local radio this morning they're already like "oh guarantee there's ROIDS in his house!"

At first people thought it was a hoax because in the wrestling storyline, Vince McMahon was supposedly dead. Last night RAW was supposed to be his memorial service. Thats why Vince had to forget about the storyline and come out and say, what he did.

Okay - I don't follow wrestling anymore so I wasn't sure of that story....

I totally agree but at the same time I doubt they had any idea of exactly what happened when they decided to air his tribute...
