If you live in a neighborhood with houses costing 600k-1 million it's not a hood. :P

A better way to judge housing costs would be what is the going rate for new houses per square foot. Also are you looking at subdivision with aminities such as pool, tennis courts or golf course. In my area the builders are getting about $175 to $200 a square foot in a "good" subdivision.

similar too juice, in texas we got land, so we grow out and prices stay reasonable, plus we got no state taxes so that helps, that's cause of oil revenues for schools

in laws have 4 bedroom, 3k ft. , gated community 1.5 acres, custom homes, 7 years old about 375k right now, they built for 280 including land

Bought my house 5 bed, 2.5 bath for $487k. Got a great deal. Houses here are on average around $500-600k right now. Usually around $700k when the market is good. Shacks in napa are going for like a mil though.

thats a small amount of bathrooms for a 5 bedroom house. usually a 3 bedroom house has 2.5 bath.

It is odd. I think they probably figured most people would use the 5th room as a den or something. The layout works though cause the half bath is downstairs with the 5th room and upstairs 3 rooms use one bath, and the master has it's own.

Way too much money is both places I reside. New houses near me in Pa go for 1.5 million at the min and here in Woodland Hills, there is not normal prices...its crazy in California.
