This is actually not surprising at all. The entertainment industry has only one goal - to make money. If broadcasting or making CDs of the sounds of flatulence would sell, you can be sure there will be radio stations or record companies doing that. Expecting them to develop some sense of morality is pointless - it will only work if morality sells.Originally posted by radoWas Imus out of line for saying what he did? I don't think he was; but most will...Now with that said...How come it's ok for the music industry to call women bitches and hoe's, yet Imus says one thing, and it's wrong?
Imus had always come across as a cranky curmudgeon, taking on the political establishment and people were willing to tune in and listen to him excoriate politicians across the political spectrum. But when he took on a bunch of innocent college basketball players and called them names, it wasn't a battle of equals any more. He simply came across as a mean-sprited old fool and got called to the mat on it. His employers realized that that simply wouldn't sell and sacked him.
The rap situation is completely different. CRUDE, FOUL-MOUTHED MISOGYNISTIC MUSIC SELLS!!!!! There is clearly a huge market for this stuff. The record companies are merely marketing what the public wants. It is in incredibly bad taste but to paraphrase Brutus, the fault lies not in the record companies but in ourselves. I think attacking the record companies for this is completely missing the point. if nobody buys foul rap music, I can guarantee that record companies will have nothing to do with it either.
Which begs the greater point. Has 5000 years of human cultural evolution come to this - why has this dreck achieved such hallowed status among our youth when great uplifting music of various genres is relegated to back-shelf obscurity? That to me is the real tragedy.

I thought you were done.Originally posted by radoHave you called them to tell them to stop? Listen...I see your point...But don't ask me to change my avatar/views because you don't like them; make sense?
I may not like the things you do, & I would never expect for you to change them for me. You do what you want, as I will do the same.
Rado, someone posted a picture of your wife as their avatar and you just about had a stroke. You demanded that they change it and made a scene. Why was that? Probably because you thought they crossed the line. Well, I think you crossed the line with your avatar. I tried not to attack you personally and you have to admit that I did a much better job in this thread than I have in the past of staying on topic.
