  • I'm about to quite my job.

During school I work part time at a gym. Some days I open and work desk, other I close at night. The job fits into my schedule fine, but I'm about to kick some members in the nuts for being such assholes. People here have stated it numerous times as a gym pet peeve, but when people don't re-rack their weights it really gets on my fucking nerves. If you are going to load something up with 8 45 lb plates...do an exercise and then be too lazy to put them back where you fucking got them..don't fucking do it. I mean honestly, if my fat ass can put them back, you should be able to.

To take things a step further, I've asked two or three guys to re-rack their weights and they said yes, and literally walked away. To say the least that really pushes my buttons. The worst part is I don't feel like I can do anyhting about it, because I can't. All I can do is ask them, then tell our Manager. He says something and people still do it. Thats because the owner will back our customers more than anything because he's afraid the gym will gain a bad reputation.

The same thing goes for the desk. Working the desk, there are people who, on a regular basis, forget their membership cards. This on kid even tried to take on or something. That at least what my boss told me.

At the end of the day, the annoyance, time spent working, and stress(Self created) from the job is just not worth the minimum wage benefit and free gym access.

If they dont re-rack the weights then just leave them laying around. someone will complain and get the big boss to do something. If he asks you to re-rack them say that aint my job! If that is part of your job then do it.

When closing it is part of the job, but I'm just not having it anymore. People at my gym are so bad about it. And I feel like if say something about it, they only think its because its my job. Not because its just poor etiquette.

Id be polite about it...approach them after theyre obviously finished and say "hey, need help re-racking those?" if youre going to be doing it by yourself, may as well recruit a little help.

ya that kinda sucks! I guess I would do just like the customers and say ya Ill get it and then just leave. when your boss says something remind him of the customers being slobs. Then just keep not doing it untill he fires you. then go collect unemployment. thats alot better than quiting.

The problem is it pisses me off on personal level. If I didn't care about the gym at all, I would say fuck it and do my own thing. But when I work out I hate having to un-rack someone elses shit and all that does is piss me off more because I know I'll have to pick up after some child again. I am not cut out for cleaning up after others...

I nearly threw a 10 lb weight I was putting away at this one kid who said he would re-rack and then walk away...but I don't have that good of a lawyer.

I'm telling you, this is what I did when i worked at a gym, and people woudn't rack their weights. Watch them as they do a set, they second they finish, and walk away. Start racking their weights. When they ask what you are doing, tell them "SInce you always walk away and never rack your weights, I'm doing it for you." They get pissed off because you stripped it before they were done. Most of the time, you do that two or three times, and they rack their weigfhts
