i think you were being smarter last week when you said you will probably keep it. you made the choice you were getting a new based on an offer from some wacko. no flame but i think you are acting like a kid again. just remember this thread after you have got the new car and realize it was a mistake. :P

I somewhat agree...as a car guy, you might want to take the hit and keep the 8.

:hmm: If she is 40 and her Dad is still giving her money, I think we can agree he doesn't have the sense to watch over her purchases. The more money than brains problem.

I thought about getting rid of my old car a few times and I made sure I had an offer before my decision. I went home, thought about it and knew I should keep it till it died. And it's a good thing I did cause I got a better deal when it was broken.

My advice, cars are the worst investment. You may want a new one now, but if you have no payment or not much left, keep it. Wait until you absolutely need one.

my point was that her story is a mess and so is she.

You'd be amazed at what I see on a regular basis with people buying and selling cars. As well as how completely some people don't care about thier finances. That is all I meant, I'm sorry.

Actually I'm thinking about the few $K in maintenance I will have to do to the RX8 in the next few years if I keep it. Its depreciation isn't going to slow down with the rising gas prices. The MS3 gets about 24-25 combined MPG. My RX8 gets 17-18 MPG. MS3 has more storage space. MS3 will have a full warranty. MS3 is more reliable. I can get the MS3 for $22K. Only $7K more than the cash I will get for the RX8.

Here is just a few things my RX8 will need in the next year if I keep it:

New Rims: Two are slightly bent. I've had them repaired countless times and I don't think it is safe to repair them further.

Spark plugs, coils, ignition wire replacement: These replacements for the RX8 are expensive as shit. I'd spend at least $300 here if not more.

The clutch: It is still in decent shape but I can feel a slow and steady decline. This definately wouldn't be cheap.

New Tires: I have maybe 5K miles left on these tires and then I'll have to spend at least $600 more on new ones.

Heaven forbid the transmission or something serious in the engine goes or I'd already be over the extra $7K I'm spending on the new car.

Anyway I hope this illustrated I'm not just considering the new car for the fun of it.

A 2 to 3 year old Honda Accord costs you 12k, you get a 100k power train warranty, and will be less maintenance intensive all together than a MS3, that is 12k more expensive...

I really understand where you are coming from, believe me I do. However, you don't know what kind of job you are getting...and unless you have parents buying this car for you that is a really poor choice and deep down I think you know that.

I don't need some internet bully calling me fat on a regular basis and if that means I have to apologize for everything I say that I may think is somewhat offensive and condescending that is fine with me.
