Since the electoral college chooses the president, how does my vote matter? Other than something for the media to debate about after the president is already elected.

You guys. The electoral college of your state makes its choice based on the popular vote. It helps prevent out right mob rule which is what strait true democracy is BTY. The popular vote also influences how the new administration and the congress governs. If the pres wins the popular vote by a land slide then he will pretty much get what he wants from the congress (I.E. Regan) if he squeaks in he will have to push and shove and shout to get anything done.

3v1lj03 is correct, your vote does determine who your state is awarded to in the final election. People forget that we don't live in a democracy, we live in more of a Republic. That is the reason we have huge special interest groups that control everything, instead of actually getting what we want.
I've never read anywhere that a President 'won the popular vote by a landslide'. Regan and many other Presidents were able to accomplish things not because of the electoral college, but because of their persona.

Thanks for the text book answer, but I am looking for the practical one :)Originally posted by 3v1lj03 View PostYou guys. This whole pretend democracy is why the younger generation is neglecting to vote. I voted last time simply because I thought I should but didn't really know what was going on. Maybe instead of just trying to rally the younger generation to vote, the campaign people should educate more on why and how your vote matters.Originally posted by NewbieChris View Post3v1lj03 is correct, your vote does determine who your state is awarded to in the final election. You're absolutely right. Look at Al Gore in 2000- completely won the popular vote in this country, yet somehow that D Bag Bush got the Presidency??? The whole "hanging chad" in Florida?? (Where is brother just happened to be the governor)Originally posted by Shibby View PostI am just being sarcastic because even though the electoral college is suppose to have it's purpose, I just don't believe it works like it's suppose to.
I was outraged. I even looked into immigrating to Canada. I feel you. The best thing you can do is to actually go vote in the primary. The delegates and super delegates in each county & state basically vote w/ the majority of how the people in their jurisdiction voted. True, the don't ALL vote that way (and they should)....Which is really what I think you're getting at, here. Why do we even go vote in the primaries if the delegates can override our votes? Kind of the same with the electoral college. Your vote is much more important now than in the actual election, though. You actually get to decide WHO you want on the ballot.

What a joke. The biggest shit storm of a President to hit this country has been a Republican and the second place is also a President.Originally posted by Gator_Mclusky View PostBecause we can't have a racist Muslum (Barak Hussein Obama) or another Clinton fucking up the USA!!!!!!!
Bill Clinton was a much better president than a lot of past Presidents.

I couldn't agree more. Now, we can all go back and forth about his values, but quite frankly- I don't give a shit. I don't even give a shit if he lied about it. That didn't have an impact on his ability to do a good job. Think back to the time when he was president- unemployment was at an all time low, the dollar was high, and we had NO national debt. The deficit Bush has gotten us in- it will take our grandchildren to pay back. What does that mean to us- higher taxes....and much of the deficit is for a war we can't winOriginally posted by NewbieChris View PostBill Clinton was a much better president than a lot of past Presidents.
