  • Temporarily taking in another dog...

So right now me and my girl are in the apartment with just the black lab pup. Well, she's not a pup anymore.

Anyway, we went over to her dad's house to borrow his truck. Went to look at his pitts in the back. He has two about a year old. The male looks great. Big and strong with a shiny perfect coat. The female looked horrible. You can see her ribs and spine clear as day. It was so pitiful looking, my girl actually started crying. So we took her and we are going to try to nurse her back to health. We are having to feed her chopped up bits of kibble by hand and we are bottle feeding her a solution to get her hydrated. Apparently the male dog was so alpha-ish, he wouldnt even let her get food. Crazy situation, but we are still hoping she can be healthy again. I will post some pics later tonight, its really sad. But we are staying positive, I got her to eat about 3/4 cup of food out of my hand not too long ago! We will be taking her to the vet on Monday morning.

(Apparently some of the deep woods folk don't like to take care of their animals. It really pisses me off and its a shame people like that are in this world.)

Not sure. We get there and there was a big bowl of fresh food out for both of them, and they had a big bucket of fresh water. She just didnt want to eat for some reason...

We honestly dont know the whole story but all we can do now is try and help.

They arent all like that. This Pit is one of the sweetest loving dogs I have ever met. They have a very bad rep, its all in how you raise them.

Nice job Grinder. People need to learn how to take care of their animals.

so your girl didn't say, "dad why did you let it get to this condition?"

i guess i don't get people, if i went over to my mom's house and she had let a dog get to a condition of almost death i would have asked her what the fuck is wrong with her.

i commend you for taking the dog and helping it. but her father should be beat with a fucken hammer.

well she was on the phone with him for a good hour this evening. he has always kept her fed, he took her to the vet apparently getting some inconclusive answers. he works a lot too so that gets in the way of whats important. (not sticking up for him at all by the way. personally if u dont have enough time to properly take care of an animal, you have no business having one)

but im trying really hard not to jump to conclusions and point fingers until we find out how she got like this. she was a gorgeous perfectly healthy 1 year old pit up until the last few months. its still possible that her weight loss was caused by a different situation all together, such as a tick illness or something. i dont know, all i know is that i hope she gets better. ill post pics of her tomorrow. those will be her before pics. then i will post progess pics when she starts her bulk! :)

                (trying to stay positive)

Feed her puppy food....it's got more calories than adult formula dog food.

We are feeding her the same food we give our year old lab. It's Blackwood's young adult formula. That ok or should I take a trip to the store?

what you are feeding her is fine. any food at all should make her gain weight very quickly. if she isnt gaining weight with food she def has some kind of other disease etc..

She is very weird about eating. You have to hold the bowl for her or she won't eat. I wonder if that hints about anything in her past.

it could just be that she is so used to getting bullied by the other dog. just take your time with her and realize that her life has been hell.

I'm getting a little worried. We are taking her to the vet first thing tomorrow morning. I've been reading up on heartworms and she seems to have a lot of the symptoms. Severe weight loss, difficulty breathing, coughing, are all signs of heartworms and she has all of that. I don't believe she has been on a monthly heartworm preventative either. All we can do now is hope and pray. Heartworms are no joke. I'm seriously seriously hoping she just has some kind of food allergy, tick illness, etc.
