Listen to this shit. I get a call from my girl's mom. She says, "you need to tell my daughter to get that dog put down." I said simply, "no." She was shocked that I actually stood my ground against her. She was like "what do you mean no?" I said, "listen, we have the dog now, and she deserves to have a chance at a better life". She says, "its not fair to the dog to keep it alive for her to suffer." I said point blank, "it wasnt very fucking fair to let her get in this condition to begin with, and we want her to get better" She said she was coming to our apartment to "take" the dog, and do it herself, since she has the dog's papers. I told that crazy bitch if she comes anywhere near my apartment I am calling the cops. So she finally calms down and she finally realizes we arent giving back the dog, so she is staying out of it now. She says some shit like "Fine. You want to waste your money on a DOG, you go ahead". I told her to have a nice night and hung up the phone.

What a stupid bitch. I never like to judge people but her parents have to be the worst people I have ever met. It's like they want the dog to die.

          :(

That's a huge task you've taken on Grinder - you definitely have a love for animals, that's awesome. I hope it's something simple.

I knew that post was going to get you fired up.

              Animal cruelty is unforgivable.

Ok so we went to the specialist today. Here is the discharge orders they gave us word for word. (Scroll down for the cliff notes)

                "Dear Mr. Grinder,

It was good to meet you and Bailey today. Bailey is a beautiful girl and a wonderful dog. Bailey was presented to us for evaluation of a possible chest mass.

On physical examination, Bailey was very thin with a body condition score of 1/5. Her heart sounds were louder on the right. The lung sounds were increased on the right and decreased to non-existant in the left forward compartment. The liver palpated enlarged. Review of the x-rays sent by your home vet showed increased soft tissue density/fluid in the left hemithorax.

An ultrasound of the chest was performed and showed soft tissue mass in the left forward chest with areas of trapped air and fluid. No definitive mass could be descerned. X-rays of the chest were taken to look for a possible twisted airway. These films are being sent to a radiologist for review. We should have these results available this afternoon or tomorrow. We will determine our next step based on his findings. The potential options would be a CT scan and/or surgical exploratory. We will call as soon as we hear from the radiologist."

So basically even though they couldnt rule out cancer, they couldn't tell us it was cancer, which is good. The Doc's hunch is something called a Lung Lobe Torsion. The surgery can be somewhat risky, but if all goes well it is removable. Other possibilities are various tumors (which hopefully are unlikely since the dog is so young), cysts, and fungal infections.

I was approved for their credit program so we will be able to pay for surgery if we get that far. Trying to stay positive at this point. It comforts me to know that there are pockets of air and fluid in the mass, because I don't believe cancer usually contains air or fluid pockets. We can only wait and see at this point. Been doing a lot of praying and didnt get much sleep last night.

(Oh yeah, if it is indeed a lung lobe torsion, it could have very well been caused by trauma to the chest. But they could never know that for sure.)

Bad news today. We had to get one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met put to sleep. She was filled up with a very agressive cancer. We knew the news was grim this morning. The radiologist called the doctor and said that it looked like a bad cancer, but there was no way to be completely sure. At that point, we knew her chances were slim. Even so, we elected to have a CT Scan done to be completely sure. Before Bailey went back for her scan, me and my girl where both on the floor with her. Bailey licked the tears from our faces before she went back with the doctor. They called us 2 hours later, and confirmed that the cancer was so bad, there was nothing that could be done. We drove to be with her, and then had her put down while she was still under the anesthesia from the CT Scan. Here were two great pictures we took of her in the last few days. Thank you everyone for all the thoughts and prayers....

really sorry to hear that my friend. i am not much of a religious guy but i do know this, bailey was lucky to have you and your girl for those last few days. almost as if she was given the gift to actually enjoy life for the first time however short it may have been. you and your girl are something special bro. keep your head up and know that you did everything you could and Bailey knows it.

That seriously makes me just want to cry, I agree with Bouncer, Bailey had a wonderful last few days because of you and your fiance. I know all of this was hard for the two of you, and I will keep you in my thoughts.

As I fellow dog lover, thank you for going to them limits trying to save such a sweet animal. I can't type out the level of respect I have for you and your fiance.

Thank you for trying, and thank you for keeping us updated.
