i think the worst is how they are making video games now. kind of like a cigarette company making candy cigarettes. its almost like a brain wash type thing. the commercials the military makes look so cool, high tech, and fun. it's dangerous and wrong to advertise that kind of shit to kids that don't have a clue.

Exactly! When I signed at 17, I didn't even know what in the hell I'd signed to do. If I had it to do over, I would've picked a job that would help transition to a real world job. Not too many people need a Forward Observer in the real world.

A recruiter just gets a kid's aptitude scores and tries to fit the kid into the biggest need...not too much thought goes into what the kid wants to do, but like you said, kids don't really have a clue. Kind of scary that a kid that can't even legally buy beer can go from signing to being on the front line of a conflict in 6 months or less.

That happens allot I was 14 credit hours from having a degree in electronics and my recruiter said "we don't need any electronic Techs right now how about this" it has worked out great for me but, not everybody is so fortunate. There so many other life skills you learn from military service. There are many things and experiences that people who have never serve find completely incomprehensible I can usually tell if I am talking to a vet because most think a little differently than the general population. I always think of a quote from Full Metal Jacket I don't remember his name but the main character said " after this the rest of your life will be gravy" I have been out 18 years and there is nothing that life as civilian has handed me that is in any way as tough as my military service was.
