The same genuises that are dismissing possibilities of a catastrophe that could in theory be created, are now breaking their own shit. Very comforting.

They are not exactly playing with legos. You don't think there will be hardware failures?

For 10 billion, and all the time spent building and testing, it just looks bad to have it mess up on its first run.

I disagree. You can only do so much in limited control scenarios. It amazes me how people respond to this like its the engineering, development, and implementation of a typical science project. These physicists are working on something that is out of the mental grasp for most of us. You can plan and calculate all you want but the fact of the matter is that you are relying on man made products that can and do fail. Things happen. This will be a minor set back in the big picture of their goals and somehing that will be qucikly forgotten. The media (as usual) helps feed the frenzy..."Oh my, look at how stupid these scientists are...the LHC has already broke."

I am surprised at how many people aren't surprised by the fact they made this huge tunnel system to sit at absolute zero.

The sheer magnitude of the entire project is mentally overwhelming to think about.
