first go to control panel > uninstall a program. look for any crap in the list like "ebay" or "aol trial". remove all that crap.

then go to your start bar and type in "disk cleanup" you will see it pop up. run that and make sure every box is checked for deletion.

then go to your start bar and type in "disk defrag" and run that also.

make sure you are up to date on all your updates from windows update. if you are on a notebook, make sure your power setting is set to high or full.

after all this reboot the PC.

i dont have to do any of that either. it helps people with slow computers.

i had my first dell notebook for 4 years until it started to get slow. never had a problem with it. i now have a HP notebook that is pretty powerful and dont plan on getting rid of it for 3-4 years either.

Even wiping out the whole hard drive doesn't work. There's crap that gets in there somehow that these developers wrote so that it won't go away. PC's have a very short shelf life, and they do it on purpose so you have to buy a new one if you're a hardcore user.

Um no true. Believe me I know a shit load more than what you read up on about computers. :P

I had to wipe out my hard drive a couple years ago and it doesn't run any faster than it did before.

Some crap gets so embedded in the drive you sometimes have to use a program to get it out.

Now if he totally deletes his hard drive so that it starts from fresh, and reloads everything he'll be ok. It won't perform like when he first bought it though. If I were him I would buy a new hard drive then transfer all your personal files after making sure they are clean.

if you knew more you wouldn't speak such rubbish.

"wiping a hard drive clean doesn't remove programs".

"pc's are designed for short life".

How is that garbage? I never said it doesn't remove programs. PC's are def designed for a short life. When have you ever seen a PC keep working like new after 2 years? Never happens. The hard drives aren't the best, batteries suck. The only way to get a decent life from a PC is to build one yourself and put the best parts in it. My mom has an old Mac at home that still works the same as the day we got it. Yes it's slow, but they weren't fast back then.

Go back to reading a little more into this stuff then come back and argue. I work with computers everyday so I def know what i'm talking about.

i have had 2 dells and 1 HP. the dells worked for 4 years until it was time to get a new one. they still work just slower.

mac's get slow over time just the same. this is not due to quality hardware, it is due to the speed at which technology grows. 4 years ago, 1 gig of ram in your computer was a ton of memory.. now its bare minimum. 4 years ago having a 20-40 gig hard drive was common, now its common to have 100-500gig hard drives.

i dont care if you live inside a computer, your talking like a fanboy and you know it.
