  • Gym story -- Personal health

So, I don't know exactly how to start this story. Bouncer if you, or any mod, feels the need to move this to Self-Care that is fine. Today during training legs towards the end of the workout this trainer puked (blood) and passed out. It looked like he went into shock, etc. I believe he has heart problems and I think his heart stopped. For about 15 minutes everyone had him on his side to keep breathing okay. The paramedics got his hearts started again and he was taken to the hospital. His name was Mark, and for those of you who believe in it please pray for him. He's a great guy and has been very helpful and friendly to me.

This is the set up for what happened to me and please don't give me shit for turning this into a story about me. Today, as i stated, was a leg training day. Well this event occurred towards the end of my workout. I had one set left when someone alerted us to this. I was fine and finished my workout. I personally don't like being a gawker for this type of even because I think it is rude. If you have something to add, then you should be doing something about it. Either way I finished and decided to go get changed and ask my trainer what happened. Well, he was lying right where you have to get to the locker room, etc. I walked by and glanced and it wasn't pretty. I've never had a history of being queasy by seeing blood. Well about a minute after I walked by and saw him I started feeling really light headed.

So, I get light headed and my vision because, as the best I can describe it...like I stood up too fast and all the blood rushed out of it. Finally, my hearing became hollow and distant. I have experienced this once before, not while training. I was led to believe it was a panic attack. This lasted maybe 5 minutes. It got to the point where I don't remember about 10 seconds. I feel fine now, I just have a slight tightness in my forehead. So, I am concluding this had nothing to do with the workout because I was done the set for about 3 minutes when this occured. I believe it was a panic attack that was triggered by seeing him and certain things that have been going on in my life.

Anyway, the question / concern I pose to everyone is...Do you think this was training related or a panic attack? And which ever you believe it is how do you think this should / does affect my training?

    Thanks

i think it totally had to do with the event and the stress you are going through in your life. try and calm down bro, sometimes you just need to go with the flo so to speak.

I think it sounds like anxiety, and since it normally doesn't affect your training - it really shouldn't pose a future problem. If you're familiar with panic attacks, then you know what works best for you to "deal" with them. I'm sure it was just what was going on, etc.

I've never really known what to do because it happened once before like 4 years ago. As long as ya'll don't think its a huge problem.

Oh so it's not something you are necessarily used to. I still don't think it's a "problem" - think it was just a lot on your mind.

What about your vision? One time long time ago. We were doing a max set of pull ups then run like a 30 yard sprint. After doing that for about 10 sets or so my hearing became hollow like that. Then I lost my vision for about 30 seconds. It was the scariest thing! Everything just faded to black. Then it faded back after about 30 seconds. That was the one and only time that ever happen to me.

being fucked up in the head causes it. it pretty much only happens if u really think negative and really get down on yourself. its not something that can just sneak up on anyone.

im not tryin to pick onyou tonight but i gotta disagree. i am as down on myself and think more negatively than anyone i've ever known and have never had a panic attack. very attractive traits i know but im workin on that lol

its gotta be somethin deeper in the psyche than that.

im not sure what it is but ive felt it before. its like someone is stomping on your chest and u cant even breathe. i know i wasnt imagining it. (but then again, if i was, its all in my head anyway, and thats like the definition of a panic attack...) ive only had like 2 or 3 in my life and it usually occurs around like a LOT of people, almost claustrophobia related.

I don't to nit pick, but what it sounds like you are talking about is a heart attack. I'm not going to say it's impossible, but I'm pretty sure you won't breath for more than a few seconds after a heart attack. Why would people put him on his side instead of administering CPR?

your body was going into mild shock....shutting down to protect itself...it wasn't a panic attack in the true sense.
