Now you're twisting my words. I don't post in the few threads that pop up in those sections because others always get to them and answer things. Also alot of the threads that have popped up are about things I don't know about.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postwell i mean on one end you are saying not enough post in those sections and then on the other end you are saying "na i dont post in those sections because others do."
and its not about just answering questions. its about participating in those sections. dont be the guy that complains about pollution and then gets in his massive SUV. :hibb:

but you say "few threads in those other sections" like we have 3 or 4 posts outside of general chat each day. hit the new posts button at the top of the page and then look at all the forums that have been posted in. i would say their is more threads made in the other sections combined then in general chat. well, until rado gets here.

Threatened?Originally posted by Shibby View PostTell me why you feel so threatened by non-believers and how my non-belief destroys the history of my country.
Well come to think of it yeah I suppose I feel threatened because in Christianity, my interpretation of it, I feel like I know where people are coming from, that ultimately they want to do good whereas anything else is an unknown.
Now you can come back to me with some boring facts about christians that have done bad blah blah and aethiests that have done good, but thats not the point.
Take the basics of christianity and to some degree other religious (including muslim) beliefs away, you leave a void.
Bottom line christianity aint generally a bad thing, it teaches that we will be and are judged on our actions with a basic moral code that even your aethiest self will have been exposed to and to some degree have instilled in your value system. You can run around saying you don't believe this and you don't believe that but the fact is those chirstians are the ones that built the country you live in, that fought for your independence, against invasion and also for various rights you now enjoy.
As for those that say people use religion like a crutch, they need hope and if your aethiest you don't need that I guarantee if your kid was dying in hospital you would pray with every ounce of strength you had.
Thats my honest

religion in and of itself was created by man with an agenda. nothing more.

religion, at least from what i've seen, is a set of rules. if you have more than 1 person, you're going to need structure. structure is set by rules. it's just like hobbes-ian theory.Originally posted by Mr incredible View PostBottom line christianity aint generally a bad thing, it teaches that we will be and are judged on our actions with a basic moral code that even your aethiest self will have been exposed to and to some degree have instilled in your value system. i'm not saying religion is bad. and yes, you're correct in saying that even atheists believe in moral standards set forth by a religion. i don't however believe that "my" country was built by christians. it was built and fought for by men who wanted to be independent from an oppressive power. and we're all under the same logistical law system either way. we fought our oppressor so we could think like him without being forced to.

Actually I just re read that and the last sentance justifies the hypocracy of the first perfectly, I thought it massiveley ignorant but its not its perfectOriginally posted by dbjmofo View PostIt was built and fought for by men who wanted to be independent from an oppressive power. and we're all under the same logistical law system either way. we fought our oppressor so we could think like him without being forced to.Last edited by Mr I; 10-22-09, 03:30 PM.

I feel compelled to point out certain things for the sake of clarity though, sorry;Originally posted by dbjmofo View Posti don't however believe that "my" country was built by christians. it was built and fought for by men who wanted to be independent from an oppressive power. and we're all under the same logistical law system either way. we fought our oppressor so we could think like him without being forced to.
1) your country was built by christians, your just chosing to ignore it
2) It was fought for by Christians, white English ones instigated the independence at that. I know you not ignoring it cos your racist though, your just keeping it real lol!
3) When you say built the country and fought the opressors lol!, you call the British Empire the opressor in the knowledge of what those founders of 'your' country did to the natives :wack:
Opressive power lol, in the scale of things that was one of the weakest opressions ever in the history and those opressors brought the skills and knowledge that built the country.
I do love your last sentance though love it:agreed:

you speak with words that mean nothing..
"Christians" is just a title. like saying a bunch of magicians built the country, or a bunch of wizards..
humans built the country. humans built the pyramids. humans built the great wall.
religion is the imagination of humans. it builds nothing, it does nothing.

True, and probably the biggest builders of all in America were the Irish over a period of time. Go tell an Irishman he's not a Christian and see where it gets yaOriginally posted by THE BOUNCER View Postyou speak with words that mean nothing..

But seriousely we can go full circle with this because I can also say its not religion that causes war its humans.
Shibbs point in the starting of the thread was about all the pro athiest type posters. I'm saying that all this religion bashing is getting old, religion does bring about some good things and often seems to instill good basic values that all of us on here have learned and reflects to a point who we are today. Not saying religions should be followed to the enth degree, not at all that would be exteemism or like sharia law/church rule, fuck that.
