Sony makes a sofware that is basically same as the protools that apple charges thousands of dollars, so like bouncer said if you wanna act like you are cool go a head and get the apple.

And one more thing if you don't wanna get virus don't surf the illegal porn sites and you'll be ok :D
i may have worded my statement differently than what i was thinking. what i was trying to get at was the fact that macs are used more often in the creative industry for several reasons. yes, you can use photoshop and other editing software on both but in terms of how fast they do the job, macs will always outperform because they're designed to do that. also, macs come with some of the best basic software (iLife) which is standard on all models. the fact that macs can process edits and such faster and in greater volumes is the highlight. go to any company's creative design area and you'll find macs, go to any recording studio and you'll find macs, go to any art school and you'll find macs. one of the driving reasons behind this is the fact that most macs come with a ready-to-go option of having a higher end graphics card and processor, one that you don't have to special order.

from personal experience, my school's visual arts department explicity states that they require macbook (pros with a 15'' screen specifically) because of the ability for it to perform tasks in adobe and final cut. you could argue that this is simply to streamline workflow or to make grading easier or to simply make Apple money, but then again, i'm sure they want to make sure you have the ability to use those programs in the real world.

of course pcs have their place. it's usable by 99.999% of all computer users and writes/edits/creates documents in universal formats. most programs on pcs are also exclusive to them and aren't available on macs. and of course, gaming. it's ideal for people who are going for programming and basic uses because programming on a mac is hard as balls (from what i've heard). i somewhat agree to the idea that apple is sold for the name and not the product, but most people who buy macs have an idea of what they want and expect and already know the differences and made the choice willingly.

    as a mac-user, i wouldn't mind owning an HP Envy. :)

spoken like someone who has a mac and will die trying to justify the price and sense of being elite over PC users.

fact is this. you didnt compare anything before you got a mac. you simply had to have a mac because you are a follower. :)

before my mac, i went through about 3 pcs in the span of 4 years. each was mid-grade in terms of specifications at the time they were bought. 6ish months after having them they became slow, not super sluggish but slow enough to impact performance. the first laptop was actually infected by a virus. the second's memory died to about half and i had to replace the ram a year or so after having it. after i did a little reconfiguring to it (defrag, hd wipe) it picked up significantly in terms of performance but it was still sluggish. the battery/battery port got damaged so that got donated. the third is the only one that is functional. been about 6 months and it's slowly getting bogged down. my dad is the only one who uses it and doesn't download a thing without consulting me. i delete unused files/programs regularly and perform weekly virus scans and maintenance. it hasn't degraded as fast as the other 2 but still slow enough that it takes a good 1-2 minutes from a complete off-state to a completely functional one.

my 3-year-old macbook runs like it did the day i bought it (other than a few cosmetic issues). i didn't change a thing on it and i used it a lot harder than the 3 pcs.

ahh the average mac nerd argument. you mac users must not be very good at this sort of thing because i have had exactly 2 notebook computers in 6 years. and both have been great. first was a dell that just got old after 5 years. still works just sitting in a closet. current one is an HP and works great. never a problem on either.

i see now though. macs are sort of the Budweiser of the computer world. made for people who are not intelligent enough to enjoy or even understand what makes a good beer.. :)

i'm no nerd. i know basic things. i don't want to have to baby my computer. that's just me. and for that reason, i feel more comfortable using a mac for my personal use. when i have a problem with my mac, i'll make sure i let you know so you can mock me day and night. but we both know the mocking will persist anyway. :)

nothing to do with babying a computer.

be honest with yourself and admit that you bought your mac for reasons that have nothing to do with a PC. you bought it because they are "neat and trendy"and the cool thing to have in school. it seemed like the hippy/nerdy rebellion thing to do..

you simply made this argument up to justify having a mac only after buying one. :)

the reason that people buy macs is exactly the reason i will never have one. someone tells me its "wear a white shirt day" i wear black. fuck you.

yes, the hype did have something to do with it but i had also been using one for a long time before buying my own and i really liked it. in retrospect, i would have probably had gotten a decent pc instead if i hadn't dropped obvious hints (it was a bday gift in '07). however, the one i bought on my own this past june, i bought after using my older one and enjoyed it more than a pc.

sure, you bought what you were use to after using it for awhile and liking certain features of it.

thank you for being honest though and admitting it. something that timma wont have the balls to do. he will argue his reasons and at the end of the day he can refer back to the same things i have said to you. :weights:

Mac's have had terrific marketign foralong time now and because of that and their appearance + easy to use + they get FEWER (not none at all Timma, get a mac and ill make sure you get one :D ) viruses. The mainthing i think is that they are trendy and with thehuge ipod success and the iphone its been real easy to just throw the ol apple badge on anything from imac to theredekstrops and sell em top doller!!!

Macs are nice, but out of my budget.

I like PC's because I can build them and for about a grand less they can be the top for a year.
