    ABC Sport - Olympic luger killed in Vancouver

    Kumaritashvili lost control of his sled near the finish Friday, went over the track wall and struck an unpadded steel pole near the finish line at Whistler Sliding Center.

    why was it unpadded? if he's training on the track then it should be prepared to compete on....

      they are saying the track is too fast. Many of the athletes are complaining about it

          Tragedy. That's horrible. One of the fastest tracks, and you're going down at 100mph.

            Local news just showed part of the accident, he got thrown off the track like a rag doll.

                i read the article saying people have hit 100mph. that's just not safe, especially when a small mistake can kill you. i understand the drive to compete and win in sports but if a minute detail can kill you, fuck that. i'd take synchronized swimming.

                      yes but a simple wall like they built would have..

                      would have kept him going in a forward direction instead of out and over into a solid beam.
