Show me a world record deadlifter in the heavyweight class with a 30 inch waist?
-I think it's a combo of the massive eating, GH and insulin at dangerous levels.

-Natural production and exogenous introduction of hormones are two very different things.

-800lbs is way off the mark from a world record deadlift.

-It's bodybuilding, not powerlifting. I don't want to look like a powerlifter and neither should any Mr.O winner.

I agree. Mass quantities may stretch the stomach but its not going to permanently distend the entire intestinal area and muscle. If that was the case Takeru Kobayashi and Sonya Thomas' gut would look like Coleman's.

So your saying these would caiuse some sort of hyperplasia effect where it can't go back to how it was?

I never said 800lbs was a world record, you completely missed the point in splendid fashion.

Who cares what you want to look like that's completely not the topic, go back and see my first point I'm not saying bodybuilding is powerlifting but the heavy lifting incorporated into that era of bodybuilding was certainly partly responsible for the thickened waist line. Arnold didn't squat more than 400lb and more often repped with 250lb on smith machine, that twisting shot was one of his favourites because it hid his wide waist

I think it's possible but it would depend on the level of abuse and genetic potential to recover.

You said Ronnie did 800 lb deads then made reference to world records, you drew the parallel not me.

Arnold didn't have a wide waist, and neither did Sergio or Frank Zane.

Those are the ideals, the pinnacle of the sport.

What we have now is a disgrace.

                  Incorrect.

And that was as a kid in the '60s. Franco also won several strength titles and had no problem with 700+ deads and 650+ squats.

No huge gut needed for either of them.

                    That's a deadlift not a squat.

Good find though and an interesting text that goes with it.

In any case he didn't work with that kinda weight or near it regularly whereas your dorian era through to ronnie was they would be using heavy weight 6 to ten reps every set.

Also I would say Franco had a wide waist when looking straight on, not frank zane though and he never ate crazy nor trained hreavy

Exactly wrong, you drew the parralel from two seperate sentances.

Yeah, I was heading out to San Diego for vacation and signed up for a training day with him. In all honesty I didn’t learn anything new from a training perspective but it was pretty cool to workout with Zane and talk about the good days of bodybuilding. He dislikes what the sport is today. He talked a little about cycling and how they would use small amounts nothing even close to amounts that are taken today. Even though he is getting up there in age he still looks amazing.

He’s really into music too. He plays the harmonica and guitar. It seemed like he enjoyed that more than talking about bodybuilding. He gave me one of his harmonicas as a souvenir. I don’t play the harmonica but feel like I should keep it since there is a cool story behind it.

You guys also have to realize that some people will genetically have a large abdomen. Toss on the food, the drugs, the weight etc..
