so what does everyone think about limiting the areas what sexual offenders are allowed to live? most state laws have a radius that they can't live based on schools in the area. this ultimately drives these offenders into more socially disorganized areas (aka city limits and cities) which are not prepared to handle them in the sense of not checking the registry to familiarize themselves with registrants of the system.
Depending on the nature of the crime, I wholeheartedly believe castration should be a viable punishment to add on to jail time. Assuming the correct anesthesia is used and pain killers are given afterwards, this is not cruel and unusual at all. It is necessary to keep our citizens safe. Watch how quickly sexual assaults and child rape cases decreases if they pass this as a viable punishment.

Whatever type of castration, it doesn't really matter. Either way it should be a punishment to the more severe rape and molestation crimes.

I didn't even bother reading all the comments to this because I already have experiences with renting to one who didn't disclose this thru the rental application. Needless to say, after renting to him, we started doing background checks. Here's my two cents:
The man was a great renter, clean, and had a son. He was a predetor for doing stuff with his girlfriend's 16 year old daughter (but he claims its not true, I kinda believe him). He did his time in jail, then relocated. The neighborhood that I lived in was seemingly great. Loved the little old lady across the street who would chew my ear off on trash collection day, and the Painter next door who thwarted off an intruder while I was there...however, these lovely people turned fierce when he moved into the home I used to live in (I rented out my single family home while I built a better one in the suburbs).
Apparently, everyone forgot that I was the owner of the home because they threw rocks (large ones) thru my glass door while he was living there. They slashed his tires twice in the driveway, and they broke his windshield. I was shocked a community who was so pleasant to me would treat my property and renter so differently.
Needless to say, I'm mixed due to the background checks I did...I wouldn't rent to one just as a protection of my property in fear of a neighborhood I thought I knew. However, I would rent to one in a perfect world because he didn't do anything, commit a crime again, nor do me wrong.
In regards to a serious criminal...I can't say. I think it is a shame for some men who get the shaft because of a daft teenager who may make things up and confuse a jury, or becuase they are technically 17. Those ones I don't think should be on the list for life but definitely on a list of some kind. The ones who should be on the list for life are those who do 6 year olds or something like that. I say this with conviction because there has been incidences in my very own family where this has happened and will never forgive the man who committed that crime and he to this day hasn't cleaned up his act. I do believe there are exceptions to the rules and that our system isn't perfect.

I'm with Grinder on this. The justice system doesn't deter felonies, it turns the other cheek. It like most government systems need an overhaul, not a tweak here and there. Jail is only a determent to people who have been there 0-1 times.

As for sex crimes I really think they have to be evaluated more individually. Statutory rape should have it's own, completely separate handling. Then those will be evaluated on stuff like age difference, the people of topics relationship history/length, environment that they met...

Pedophiles should be dealt with as psychiatric cases and possibly institutionalized for life with different levels of "communities". Restricting the places they can live only brings them together and creates a breeding ground for regressive behavior.

True Rape should be handled by assess physical and mental harm. Evaluating the victims mental harm will help build a case against the rapist and help the victim recover mentally. Things like drugs and alcohol should be taken into account on the person having a chance of rehabilitation. After serving the jail sentence they should then have to go to something like a specific institution for rape offenders to be evaluated extensively. An legitimate person will handle the day to day evaluation then an outside evaluator will need to give a first impression evaluation of sorts.

The concept of "greater good" got lost some time ago. I know we all don't want an innocent person to get punished, but the system has become so concerned of making sure that one person doesn't get wrongfully convicted; that it has become completely broken as a whole. Even then about the same number of innocence get convicted with the current system as it did with the "greater good/chain gangs" system. So nothing has changed except for making people think less before acting.

Castration if its a kid and life. I think they should be in a prison just for sex offendors so I don't have to look at them? What about if a chick puts out but lies and says she was raped for whatever reason... I mean how do they know who is telling the truth? Wtf???

I have a friend who is serving in a minimum security prison right now. Alcohol involved crash that killed his passenger. He sleeps in a dorm with other prisoners. I imagine this is where posession of steroids, marijuana, tax evasion, etc prisoners would go. During the day, they do landscaping work, trash pickup, etc. I think that is perfect for that type of crime.

The chain gang, isolated sleeping arrangments, etc should be for the heavy hitters, including true rapists IMO.
                      I see yes I agree

Forced sexual assault is one of the worst crimes that can be committed. As for statutory rape, the age of consent should be 16. At that point, they understand what is going on.
