It may be different all over, but in NY if you don't get called your name gets dropped from the list for a while.

According to that link, you can be excused at the federal level for 2 yrs, and 6 months for state and/or county, if you previously served.

That being said, you didn't serve so I would say it doesn't apply to you and could therefore be summoned at any point in the future.
