as it is my job is reactors from a to z and i supervise 3 of them. while on a much smaller scale (10-k gallons per) a reactor is a reactor hince the term refers to reactions..anyways the key to control of a reactor is the cooling around the jackets to quell heat and pressure .without cooling u can go past the point of no return and a reaction that was meant to be in control quickly turns into a reaction that cant be controlled and a second and unwanted reaction occurs to which depending on elements within the vessal can burst the reactor and in most cases does. ok so whats going on as some of u allready know is how to get and keep the cooling water back on before he unthinkable happens . the backup system diesel generators that were also damaged put the screws to that , last i heard the reactor was approx 3x above normal op temps and knowing the basics this cant be good.thank goodness someone powered the reactor down but there is still a lot of residule heat that has to dampened. fingers and toes still crossed here in ga.
