katrina death toll was i think around 1800 as of this mourning the feared dead was approx 1000 in japan. with out a reactor failure maybe it wont be as tragic ..lets keep our finger and toes crossed.

Fukishima No 1 plant explosion, not a melt down, but there has now been a radiation leak, people being advised not to drink tap water. The pressure vessel is not thought to have exploded though which is what happened at chernobyl, what's happening is more like Americas 3mile island fuck up.

This nuclear issue makes a strong argument for the people who don't want more nuclear facility's built. All of the things happening to the plant in japan right now were not supposed to be able to happen because of all the "sophisticated backup systems" and info learned from Chernobyl and 3 mile island. Well guess what.. its happening and the backup systems have failed..
