I don't think the radiation by itself can cause wintry weather. When we talk about nuclear winter, I think the hypothesis is that the effect of nuclear war in particular would be widespread destruction and the resultant smoke, debris, etc. in the atmosphere can block out the sun and cause cooling of the earth and consequently, cold winters. So, the effect is indirect.

alot of communication at work is via hand signs due to the din. thumbs up , thumbs down , closed fist for stop , etc. in alot of areas the cell phone and radio have to be turned off due to the static charge they can hold .

What's different here from the Chernobyl accident is that we have not yet seen a direct impact on the health of the people as a result of the nuclear accident.

i think what they mean is that during chernobyl there were people that were effected immediately, the people were exposed to massive amount of radiation immediatly. there were people watching the disaster from the bridge, they said the radiation was so high that the trees around the plant were glowing red. they were not on fire or anything, just red glow.

ahhh, okay. that makes more sense. i was kind of confused about that statement. my dad was exposed to minute amounts of radiation when he was in grad school and almost like clockwork, 20 years later he was diagnosed with leukemia. so when they said the population isn't affected i took offense.
