First picture with the new camera... still learning how to use the focus and exposure metering, so the focus is a bit off.

scrum, take a closeup of something. i still think the cam on my phone competes pretty well will the closeup shots. beast is able to zoom in a bit more but I am not sure its worth the extra money to buy a stand alone cam. prove me wrong indian filt!

Actually scrum's picture could be much better. He had the shutter set at very high speed but the aperture could've been higher also to allow less light in to the lens. Also lower the ISO less noise and darker picture. Don't know what the Iso of that picture.

And I just found out that to take close up pictures like the one below you need a macro lens. What we have on our slr cameras can only focus so much.

Beast, I had the wrong numbers in my post for the heron photo. I just checked the EXIF data on the photo and here are the correct ones:

f11, 1/500 sec, ISO 1250.

So yeah, I should have opened up the aperture a bit and gone to a lower iso. Didn't need the high iso since the bird was stationary, I think. Biggest problem right now for me is making all these decisions and figuring out which button to press for what before the bird flies away lol...

And Bouncer, before you consider an SLR, maybe you should seriously consider a P&S. It will be a step up from the phone camera in terms of options, settings, zoom capability, etc. I don't think an SLR is something you should get unless you are serious about photography as a hobby, because you'll get tired of carrying it around. The beauty of a P&S is that you can just put it in your pocket and carry it everywhere, and just like everything else, you only get good at photography by taking photos, not by what equipment you have.

Obviously you don't get the idea behind the slr camera. Beauty of the slr is you can switch out the lens for what you wanna shoot. You can change te lens take an awesome picture of a dragon fly or put on one of these and take a picture of the moon.
I wanna see you put one of these lenses on your phone. :rofl:

Scrum there is a "Q"button on your camera (stands for quick :D) that makes doing the adjustmens a breeze.

One of the best reasons I love my dslr aside from the the zoom capabilities and quality of images is the ability to take insanely fast pictures in succession. When I'm trying to capture that perfect photo of my daughter playing, etc I just start clicking away.

It will be awhile before any phone is capable of that.

I can do that with one x as well. Hold button down and it takes a thousand shots a.minute or some shit.
