Great movie. Hard to watch at times because of the brutality. And to imagine that the brutal whipping scenes were only portrayals and a fraction of what really happened.Comment

Dances with Wolves
Yes the original film from 1990. lol
I have obviously heard of this movie my whole life but it was a bit before my time to have seen it and appreciate it.
Given my interest in the subject matter and the fact that it's such an iconic american western film I thought I would give it a watch.
First things first, it's looooong, 4 hours in fact. I thought this would really put me off but the way the movie is done makes it tolerable.
Loved the movie, really pulled me into its world and made me imagine the west as it was, magical, wide open, and a bit scary.
Great acting, great story, great movie.

Damn bro. Just now seeing dances with wolves, and never seen legends of the fall? Both exceptional 90's flicks. I'm only a few years older than you, surprised you missed those. Legends of the fall is a bit of a drama type deal, but full of good emotional hit home type shit. Anthony hopkins is great in it.Comment

I was 6 when dances with wolves came out and my mom bless her heart would have never had a decent movie like that in the house. LoL.
I grew up on Superman, Rambo, predator, rocky etc.. Come to think of it, as a single mom I guess she was trying to replace my dad with those alpha movies. Didn't want me to grow to be a gay I guess. :DComment

The Last Emperor
What an absolute bore of a movie. I struggled through the boredom hoping it would improve. I looked at the clock about 10 times. I have no clue how this movie won so many awards including best picture. Just terrible and the fact that a bunch of chinese people all speak english is just a joke. Maybe it's a time thing and this movie just hasn't aged well since it came out in 87, I dunno. I really thought I was going to enjoy this movie being a lover of all things history. But god damn, I just couldn't force myself to like this one.

The Orphanage
Great ghost movie from 2007. It's a Spanish film from director Guillermo del Toro (one of my favorites)
Just a great story that really makes you think. Really well done and original.
It's in Spanish so you have to make sure you have the subbed version.
