Well, you should be gaining good then. You lost a whole lot, Mrs. P. I thought you were always so fit and beautiful. :) You'd never be able to tell.
I homeschooled my daughter for a while when she was younger...I think this is why I usually understand NJ with no problem. LOL

I can tell you from experience you can't do much to motivate her. She has to get to a point where she wants to make a change herself. After my car accedent I gained a lot of weight. There wasn't anything anyone could say or do to get me out of the state I was in. It wasn't until I got fed up with myself that I kicked myself in the ass. I would have friends show me pictures of myself when I was competeing and ask why I didn't get back to training. I would tell them I was in to much pain. I was tired from just dragging myself to work each morning. It wasn't until I looked in the mirror and was disgusted with what I saw that I could start again. The pysical pain wasn't even the worst part. Having to step back into the gym and have people that knew me see me fat and weak was the worst. You have to struggle with your own vanity and pride first before you can even make the pysical effort.
Just keep making the offer to help her. When she is able to mentally make the commitment then you can help her with the pysical.

actually - i'm with pudgy and saturn. unless the motivation to change and transform comes from within, the changes she makes are going to be temporary and she'll go back to her original form. you can always try to offer, but don't push, don't shove. she has to get sick of it herself first :(
